rjf35jr: I am a bodybuilder and theres no doubt powerlifters are stronger i like to combine both, Powerbuild i do incorporate powerlifting movements deads from the floor not the rack,squats,etc.But i respect powerlifters.

barbelldog: You really to determine true strength in any sport have to look @ the dedication, motivation and drive of any given individual . Any other way to look at it would truly be unfair and unprofessional of me. THAT IS USUALLY THE ANSWER I GIVE.
I really do not like to compare powerlifting to body building because unlike some I respect both sports equally. We are about the numbers. They are about size and definition.
but pound for pound both partie’s know the answer just you tube george halbert, Gene Rychlak, Matt Smith any of the big power name’s.

barbelldog: Yes we can gain strength with out size but size helps I was actually strongest @262 lb for lb. Actually we can go a little over board with form and calculations to reduce stroke. You can make unbelievable gains in strength just by concentrated form work.People laugh when they see us with tape measure’s yard sticks and TI camera’s until they see an instant gain of 20lbs on the bench of the guy we are working with. I would have to say especially with equipped lifters that form can make all the difference.
Speed speed speed when I discuss speed training I don’t mean quick down up I mean up so hard and fast you feel like the bar could leave you’re hands and end up on the roof. P=W/T POWER EQUALS WORK DIVIDED BY TIME THIS IS CRITICAL WHEN THINKING OF ABSOLUTE STRENGTH.
Another thing I do with my team is make sure that thier core is setup to handle the weight we do aLot of work on thickening the abs rather than tightenand pull them in. One example is an exercise we do using a tricept bar while laying oon a flat bench we will start with the bar flat on the ground andbringing it up to our line of sight and beyond the whole time doing a complete situp causing our abs to bulge outward upon completion of the rep the bar is resting on our knee’s.
