From nothing to something
I think it’s great when yo find a passion and figure out a way to keep enjoying that passion throughout your life. I find my passion to be football. i was lucky enough to play it, and now I am lucky enough to coach it. A local high school needed a linemen coach and I knew the program pretty well ( my brother is still there) and jumped all over the oppurtunity to share what I had learned with these high school linemen. This is where the emotion starts to kick in with me when I talk about dedication. This team was 3-17 in the past 2 years. They never had the drive, the passion, or the commitment to decide to get better. This year something has changed. I had helped a group of the team’s leaders and role player train this summer. After the first workout they were done…dead tired and ready to quite. I challenged them to run 1 more 110 yard sprint. I had stole this from my high school coaches play book. No one got up. I started to walk away and head to my car when I heard one of the weakest players on the team yell for me, ” Coach… Blow the whistle.” Honestly it was like something out of a movie. Everyone looked at him, looked at each other, and got up on the line. I would like to tell you from that day forward every player on the team showed up to the extra workouts and worked their hearts out… but I would be lying. However there was a group of elite gentlemen and athletes that came to the table every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday with an appetite for pain and improvement. They showed up to preseason with a new attitude, and attitude the coaches weren’t really expecting from this group. Each practice they played with a chip on their shoulder always looking to prove to the coaches that this year was going to be different. So far the boys have gone 3-0 allowed 14 points and have punted just twice. These boys aren’t future NFL stars, and they’ll be the first to admit it, however they are the hardest working and most determined SOB’s I have ever seen. This weekend they are taking on a school that beat them 132-6 over the past 3 years. Everyone has counted them out despite this start. You can bet that when this team takes the sideline they’ll have this in mind and they will play with their hearts on the outside of their armor. This blog is going to cover this team and include their workouts, nutrition, practices and of course games…
