MadMax: The first time a saw these I was tottaly caught off gaurd! They look so strange i’m usually skeptical of things like this but it will be cool to see if there is any significant change for you.

jesterno2: I haven’t run since the hill workout but I have worn them around the house a little bit to get used to the feeling. They don’t feel like they are stretching any, but my feet are getting a little more used to having all the toes separated. The sizing is really weird, and the model I have, the KSOs, have an upper that makes the hole that you put your foot into really tight so it still takes me a few minutes to get them on. I’m hoping they loosen up a tad or I get used to getting my toes situated in there cause it’s such a pain in the ass, but I guess we’ll see.

I am going to try using these over a few weeks and see how it goes but I have no experience with coaching running or anything like that so no idea what to tell your track kids. If they do promote a more natural walking gait I might say they should have a positive effect on track athletes, but I can’t tell if they really do or not yet. I’ll keep everyone posted!

Spitz: some of my high school track athletes are wearing these, i have no idea what to tell them about them so i’m interested to see how this goes…

the sizing stuff sounds interesting. have they been stretching out at all?

jesterno2: Update: did some more running today, this time up hill. I can definitely feel some parts that I am not used to feeling. For some odd reason my obliques were really working today and I could really feel my hip flexors too. My hammies and butt are really sore as well, which I’m not used to either. I use this same hill right outside my hill for sprints quite often and this is definitely different than usual.

Again, I won’t jump the gun and laud these things as effective for anything just quite yet, but it’s definitely different. I like the feeling of the new stimuli so if nothing else it’s just nice to feel something different.

Next test:stadiums!

PeteBauman: nuwanee, i don’t think the majority of the different styles they have are waterproof, but i thin they do advertise their “flow” model as being water sport friendly. i think it has a neoprene upper and the rest of the shoe is made from the same material. you can stick those things in the washing machine and they are made for trail-running so i would imagine they all hold up well in water though…

Nuwanee: Oooh! These look really cool! I’ve never heard of them. You can use them for rock climbing too? Are they waterproof?

jesterno2: Update on the shoes:

Tried rock climbing with them yesterday at my local rock-climbing gym and these bad boys are awesome. I have a pair of regular rock climbing shoes but I the Vibrams give me a lot more dexterity so I can use individual toes on grips. I’m gonna try running in them again tomorrow but I can still feel the workout from the sprints I did the other day.

jesterno2: Well, my first impressions are that they make my feet hurt, I’m gonna assume because I’m not used to having my toes separate. It is definitely different from wearing shoes. I did an HIIT workout with 50 yard sprints and some jump-roping, and i can definitely feel my calves and my feet, including each individual toe which I’m not used to. It hurt at first to sprint just cause I’m not used to that much pressure and impact on the soles of my feet, but after a couple of sprints I got used to it. My pinky toe is still aching 3 hours after the workout, I don’t know if cause the shoe is too tight or if it’s cause that toe isn’t used to doing this much work because of enclosed shoe. So yeah, it’s really really different and my feet hurt but I’m gonna stick with them and see if they break in or my feet adjust after a couple weeks.

PeteBauman: hm, i’m really skeptical. they look really gimmicky. they claim that they help you recruit more muscles and develop a more natural walking motion (or gait), that they help you have better balance, agility and posture, and that they help your nerve system improve its sensory reception. that’s a whole lot just for wearing a glove on your foot. i’ll be real interested to follow this too…

Gymclass: Lol, how did you like them? One of my clients has a pair and she said that they take a few weeks to get used to, but she absolutely loves them. Will you post some comments over the next few weeks so we can see what you think? There’s a lot of hype around these shoes, I’m really interested to see if they’re legit.
