yesterday i saw something unique

there was soemthing very unique yesterday in the gym….i dont know why but it really bugged me. there was a guy that at most looked like 140lbs and looked like he had no musscle… i dont judge ppl but when i saw him sit on the bench with 240lbs i was bedazzled. so i watched in wonder what was going to happen, so this huge body builder looking guy was with him and was standing talkin to him so i figured it was for the big guy to crank out some reps…..i was wrong. the big guy went behind the bench to spot the little guy….i was more intrested than ever, it was like a fairy tale bedtime story. so then as he went to bench his back ass and everything but his sholders practically left the bench and the whole time the big guy is holding the weights helping him up…..and i ask myself “really” i mean really come on…..that i think was one of the saddest things ive ever seen in the gym, yet to make matters worse the huge guy goes good set and starts to put more weight on for him……its just like whats the point, he isnt going to get anywhere doing that…..at most arch your lower back, but even thats pushing it…….thanks for a great laugh at the gym, douchbags at the hocking college gym

MeatSackAL: hahah my lifting partner is the same way hes 5.5 160 but he can through up 315 like 6 times like nothing. I guess the short arm range helps.

Spitz: yeah, definitely sounds like powerlifting form with legs moved really far back to create a huge arch and lower the distance the bar has to travel. i haven’t heard of too many 140 lb guys using this but it definitely helps guys putting up a ton of weight to move more.

i know dave tate really preaches about using proper powerlifting form as a better and more efficient way to bench. 90% of guys in the gym bench with terrible form and definitely put more stress on their shoulders than they need to.

PeteBauman: sounds like he was using powerlifting form arching his back that much, which is a completely legitimate way to lift, but if you can’t handle the weight you put on the bar then it’s worthless. the big guy might be coaching him to lift like this, which is great, but sounds like he is going about it wrong.

i don’t count reps where a spotter even touches the bar as completed reps. i do hate seeing guys try to do more than they are capable of, especially if they are being taught to lift like that.

llulko: Hahahah. That is so funny.  People sacrifice form in order to lift heavy and look like a big shot!!! It’s the small man complex…
