Event
Details
The run was inaugurated after the September 11, 1999 death of Upper Saddle River resident Dick Meighan. Dick was a long time resident and active participant in community life. He was a coach to hundreds in a variety of sports which spanned the ages and interests of his four children. He is sorely missed, but memories of his devotion to family and community spirit live on in the race. Proceeds from the event continue to benefit the local community, including D.A.R.E., the SRV Rescue Squad, Ambulance Corps and Fire Department, USR Education Foundation, Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts of America, USR Youth Triathlon and the "Extra Mile" Scholarship Fund. Total donations exceed $150,000. The race has also provided much Thanksgiving Day joy to thousands of runners and their families. It's a fitting tribute to Dick's memory, and the Upper Saddle River Recreation Commission is extremely grateful to all who support the event.

Start your Thanksgiving off right this year by participating in the 11th running of the Dick Meighan Memorial Run.
For $20 if you pre-register ($25 if you wait), you’ll have a chance to burn some calories, catch up with neighbors, support your community, pick up a sharp-looking heavyweight t-shirt, and maybe go home with local bragging rights and one of our exceptional age group awards.
As before, the race is organized by the Upper Saddle River Recreation Commission through the generosity of the families and businesses listed in our Sponsors Page. This year’s race will follow the format of our previous races and will again feature individual and family team competition in a field of nearly 2000 runners. To avoid any race-day confusion, families that wish to run in the family team competition must be pre-registered with a minimum of 3 members.
To support and reward the participation of young people, age divisions are: 10-and-under, 11-12, 13-14, 15-16, 17-18, 19-24, 25-29. In 2007 we added a new catagory, The Baby Buggy Brigade, to add a new element of fun to the annual race. Special mats at the start and finish line will record a chip time so that we can we can quickly tabulate and announce the results. Please stay for refreshments and the awards ceremony immediately following the race! And don’t worry about the weather - our staging area is indoors at the Cavallini Middle School.
The race will be timed using the ChampionChip system. Runners and walkers will be issued a computer chip which is attached to runners’ shoes and worn throughout the race. Special mats at the finish line will record a finish time for each chip so that we can quickly tabulate and announce the results.
