yeah, i don’t have any recipes for weird stuff like that, but you could certainly use those ingredients if you want; it’s all about personal taste.

laura, i have a great turkey chili recipe too. i tend to use ground turkey instead of of ground beef, but mostly cause it’s cheaper. i’d use grass-fed beef, but turkey chili tastes just as great and at a much lower cost. that sounds like a pretty good recipe, and i’ll post mine in a bit when i can find it.

use refried beans instead of flour or cornstarch to thicken up your chili. it’ll add a lot more fiber along with the carbohydrates, and help add to a nice flavor and consistency.

so i actually have a crockpot of my chili cooking right now, waiting for me to get home, so i’ll write out the recipe now that i remember it:

1 lb ground turkey
1 can kidney beans
1 can garbanzo beans
1 can refried black beans (i like the trader joes kind with jalapenos)
1 can diced tomatoes (again, trader joes kind with chilis)
1/2-1 whole red onion, diced
1/2 - whole green bell pepper, diced
Southern greens - chard, mustard greens, kale, etc
4 cloves garlic, minced
2 tablespoons of oil - coconut, rice bran, olive, etc
diced chilis (optional if you want more heat)
Spices (to taste):
ground black pepper
cayenne pepper
cumin
turmeric
dried oregano
dried parsley
crushed red pepper flakes

add oil to the pot and sweat the onions until they are translucent (see-through).
add the turkey, garlic and spices, and cook until brown.
add the tomatoes, kidney and garbanzo beans and simmer for 20-30 minutes (or on low crockpot setting for 6-8 hours).
add greens and bell pepper and cook until the greens have wilted.
add refried beans and stir until they have mixed in, thickening up the entire mixture.
simmer for another 10-15 minutes.
let cool and serve, garnishing with cheese, green onions, sour cream, or your choice of toppings.
also goes great with corn braed and butter.

it’s not chili, but here is a killer jambalaya recipe that is just as good:

1 slice applewood bacon (diced)
4 hot links (sliced)
2 andouille sausages (in 1 inch quarters)
1 chicken breast (diced)
1 package frozen shrimp or Trader joes longostino tails (mini lobsters)
1/2 package of Trader Joes southern greens
3 cups chicken stock
1 cup wild rice
1 bell pepper
3 stalks celery
1 red onion
2 green onions
1 can diced tomatoes with chilis
(all to taste)
cayenne pepper
black pepper
dried oregano
dried parsley
turmeric
chili powder
thyme
- brown bacon (not crisp) and sweat onions until softened on high setting
- add sausage and hot links and cook, stirring occasionally, until some edges start to brown
- add celery, chicken breast and spices and cook until outside of chicken starts to whiten
- add diced tomatoes (including the juice), bell peppers, stock and rice
- cook on high setting 2-3 hours, or low setting 5-6 hours, or until rice is cooked through
- stir in southern greens, thawed shrimp/longostino tails, and let cook on low setting for 10 minutes or until greens wilt and shrimp turn pink
- serve and garnish with green onions and Louisiana hot sauce

I guess it depends on your goal… Y

You can less carbs, less fat more protein or all healthy sources of carbs fats and protein

You can make a healthy high fat, high protein low carb

Or you can do a healthy high carb high protein and low fat.

It really depends on your goals

Try to pick fresh ingredients like grass fed beef, wild shrimp, homemade tomato sauce, low sodium, brown rice, lean bacon ect…
