This was mind boggling for me.. it makes me think twice about drinking water!

The lobbyists fight to make these levels as high as possible, so that their companies can get away with dumping more and more pollutants into the water supply without getting in trouble.”

“The government knows for a fact that some of these substances can cause anything from increased asthma and a nasty rash, to cancer and birth defects if taken in the wrong amounts.”

“You may be wondering what they use to determine just what the “safe level” is, and this might be the most disconcerting fact regarding all of this. It is not uncommon for the government to change the levels of what is considered safe, based on new research – for example in 2001, they reduced the maximum amount of allowable arsenic, a very deadly toxin, from 50 micrograms down to 10mcg, a 400 percent reduction. ”

this article is an eye-opener, pete…you don’t think about all the chemicals in the ground seeping into the water.  and drinking it isn’t the only problem, you have to worry about the water from your shower seeping into your skin too!  yikes.  :(

yeah, it’s pretty scary and you can bet that this is just another factor on top of all the other problems with diet that we are dealing with today. it’s no wonder that rates of degenerative disease are higher than they’ve ever been.

the worst part about all of this is that we are pretty much helpless to do anything about this. the democratic system allows us to vote for our own representatives for government, but if they aren’t doing the things to fight the lobbyists and make new regulations to change all these policies, there really isn’t anything we can do. everyone is exposed to tap water in some way, and if this stuff is really much worse than we currently think/know it is, it could mean some serious problems for the future. let’s hope for the best and make sure to filter whenever possible!

We talk a lot about water and the dangerous substances in it. What about rain. Organic farms get rained on. What is the rain composed of? How many harmful toxins fall from the sky and are absorbed by our plants? Hard to escape all that we have created.

I like to try and drink water to flush my body out, Ive heard that it regulates blood flow, but this isnt the only reason that I drink it. I primarily try to pee clear at least once a dayand that is a good gage that I am keeping up with my fluids. Does anyone else drink water for a different reason? or know of any other fuctions of water intake?

outside of major cities and dense urban areas, acid rain and polluted rainfall are a lot less of an issue than out in rural farming areas, simply because the amount of air pollution is a lot less. in areas like LA and NY and other mtropolitan areas, there are tons of cars and smog is a problem, but the toxins in the air don’t travel inland as far as the major farming areas. in the central valley and places like fresno where there are both, it can definitely be more of a problem, but in the wheatand corn belts through the middle of the country the pollution is from farming chemicals and pesticides, not so much from the air pollution resulting in acid rain.

it is an issue, and can contribute to water pollution in cities as well, but it’s not as big an issue as direct water pollution via dumping and erosion.

Wow, this stuff IS scary! O_O

Tap water is such a big part of our lives, it’s scary to think that this is what is in it! And the fact that the government allows all of this stuff in our water is crazy. I hope there is better news in the next article about the bottled water, but I haven’t heard good things about that either…

yeah, Brita or Pur or one of the other reputable filtration system companies is your best bet. i’m sure the knockoff brands you’ll find at Walgreens or Walmart would be sufficient as well, but i’d go with the name brand just in case.

water filtration is gonna be your last line of defense against anything that could possibly end up in your water. it honestly might not get 100% of everything that is in there, but it will be worlds better than going without one.
