I’ll start off by saying this isn’t a diatribe against just Taco Bell. I have this sentiment about most fast food places, and pretty much all processed food manufacturers whom I feel a…

OMG!! these stats are shocking and GROSS!!! this is worse then DOG food!!! how can people continue to eat taco bell after these claims??? I would rather eat a big snikers bar then eat FAKE MAN MADE MEAT!

“If you dig a little deeper, you will find that the meat filling is only comprised of around 35 percent beef, with the rest being made from various industrial fillers, flavoring and coloring agents.”

“The USDA definitions of beef is “flesh of cattle,” and their definition of ground beef is “chopped fresh and/or frozen beef with or without seasoning and without the addition of beef fat as such, shall not contain more than 30 percent fat, and shall not contain added water, phosphates, binders, or extenders.” On top of that, the USDA definition for anything labeled “meat filling” requires that it contain at least 40 percent fresh meat. “

ewwwww! i cant believe the fda thinks 40% fresh meat is acceptable.. what has this world come to!! i always thougth is was a cheap grade of meat.. i had no idea it was fake.. thank god i dont eat this crapola!!!!!! good luck fast food eaters.. you are on your own

actually if you look at the ingredients list, the fillers are oats, potato, tapioca and corn (maltodextrin). it isn’t necessarily fake meat, it just isn’t actually all meat. i’m surprised with all the food allergy problems that we see these days that the labels aren’t more clear about the ingredients and what the meat is actually made out of, but it isn’t like this is some stuff made in a test tube and injected into the meat. it’s not like a science experiment, although it does undergo extensive processing in order for it to still taste and look like beef. i haven’t eaten at taco bell in years, mostly cause their meat has always kinda freaked me out, but i wouldn’t say that any other restaurant offers anything much better than this either.

i see what you are saying but if its only 35% meat and the rest being fillers..  i wouldnt actually call this meat.  They shoudl make up thier own recipe term.

Right Laura! Technically, according to the FDA laws, it shouldn’t be considered meat cause it doesn’t meat the regulatory minimum requirements! That is what the lawsuit was about. The law firm wasn’t suing for money or damages. They simply wanted Taco Bell to change their marketing and stop calling it meat cause it doesn’t meat the standards to be labeled meat. So gross! O_o

I am happy that they brought this topic up just for the sake of protecting our community and letting taco bell eaters know the real deal…

Who was suing taco bell… the FDA? They really didn’t make any money from this?

the sad thing is that this truth won’t stop people from eating at these places….it’s like you know smoking causes lung cancer, but that doesn’t necessarily mean you will stop smoking.

i do get cravings for their chalupas every now and then….lol.

I guess people live their life thinking “it will never happen to me” Its ok to indulge once in a blue moon however some people are eating fast food 3-4 times a week.. that’s when they should be concerned.  It really is a shame dana..
Most people should know that fast food is garbage, there is no secret to that.. if people want to indulge eating it 3-4 times a week, that is a risk they should be fully accounted for
