i love this article!! great tips

my favorite finisher are kettlebells.

i thought you brought up a great topic… read bellow

“In fact, it could be counter-productive to work at a high intensity if your goal is fat loss.

Fat is the energy source of choice while working at lower intensities, while glucose (carbohydrates) is the energy source of choice during higher intensity activities.

If you have effectively depleted your food and glycogen stores and attempt to do extra high intensity work, your body could revert to breaking down amino acids and muscle tissue for energy in a process called gluconeogenesis.”

I dont think many people understand the concept of depleating or replenishing glyocgen stores.. understanding this concept can make or break your workouts..

regardless of the level of depletion of glycogen stores, the intensity is the most important factor in those statements. high intensity activities use carbs as the fuel source cause they can be converted to energy quicker. lower intensity activities use fat, whether it is free floating fatty acids, or breaking down stored fatty tissues, which is the goal. this is the same concept as we saw in the fasted cardio discussion, and applies here as well.

Doesn’t it help preserve muscle to have some glycogen stores left??

doing hiit on an empty stomach can burn some muscle right??  How is your glycogen stores not important???

Of course the main thing is your intensity level but i was curious if your glycogen stores have anything to do with it

I absolutely LOVE the Farmers Walk recommendation. This stuff really can help shred some fat at the end of a workout. You don’t even realize how hard you are working because it is a FUN exercise and new, so it is exciting. Man, a great exercise though. Tremendous article Dave!
