“There are side effects such as drowsiness, more vivid dreaming, and even increased blood pressure. You also need to be aware of other drugs and substances that you are taking, due to the potential for adverse interactions with melatonin.”

These side effects are no joke!! it seriously put me in a deep sleep… i actaully decided to stop taking it because i had so much trouble waking up at 5am to go to the gym.. i woudl just hit snooze and go after work which i HATE doing.. haha and the dreams are crazy… you wake up remebering everything.

if you have trouble sleeping i would definitely recommend this supplement.. IT WORKS for sure

yeah, i’ve actually seen a study that shows that melatonin can remain in the bloodstream as long as 8 hours and have negative effects in the morning, so you should try to take it 1-2 hours before you go to bed in order to avoid it. i am a really big night owl and need to start taking mine earlier cause i have the hardest time waking up every morning. i actually don’t have the problem with the vivid dreams, at least as far as i can tell - i have heard a lot of people talk about how crazy their dreams get and how they can remember everything but mine don’t seem to be any different than when i am not taking melatonin.

Hi everyone Sorry I have not be here in a while. Anyway I would not take more than 5 mg and dont take it daily. To much and to often will stop Testosterone production. Also A ton of research posting have recommeded Women not take Melatonin.

yeah, anything over 5mg is probably overkill. depending on the size of the supps you got i would start with 3mg and see if that is enough.

im actually going to have a ZMA article coming up. the difference is that ZMA contains magnesium, which has natural sedative effects, whereas melatonin is the actual hormone that is involved in the sleep process. there are many different types of magnesium supps out there that aren’t ZMA that you can take.

musclegym - 3mg should be great. let us know how it goes!

laura - melatonin is better, and you’ll see why when our article on ZMA comes out this week or next. it should get some interesting reactions =)

charlie - i honestly haven’t ever heard anything regarding melatonin being bad for women. it doesn’t modulate processes like testosterone and estrogen and there isn’t a significant difference between men and women in their melatonin levels, and it is naturally created by everyone in response to dark. in perusing quickly over the research there does seem to be a bunch of research regarding breast cancer and melatonin, but the abstracts all point to it possibly having anticarcinogenic effects, not promoting the growth of cancer cells. mother nature is not in the business of encouraging the growth of things such as cancer, and natural selection long would have weeded out melatonin as an important hormone if this was the case. bottom line, i think it’s fine for women and men both. if you have some specific research to point to regarding it being bad for females i would love to see it - please post it!
