Beta-Alanine

“Beta-Alanine is an amino acid that can help improve muscular strength, endurance, and promote the gain of lean body mass. It has been studied extensively, and many people have taken it for a significant amount of time. It has been out long enough now to be taken as a serious supplement, and should be taken by serious athletes.

Some studies have shown that supplementing with anywhere from 1.5-2g per day can improve performance. However, the more common amount is anywhere from 3-8g per day. It can create a sort of tingling and a “flush” feeling, so you may have to work up to that dosage. Your bodyweight may come into play as well in determining how much you should take.”

I feel like this is the IT supplement know.. everyone is talking about it!

there are a couple different ways to use beta-alanine. the most common way is to take it as a pre-workout, and this has probably been the most studied method as well. people like the tingly feeling when they are working out, and it definitely helps with the workout. there is also timed-release beta alanine, which you can take throughout the day, and i have seen protocols that call for pills taken throughout the day to keep the beta-alanine in your system up. i don’t know if there’s a right or wrong answer as to which is better, i would have to look at more research.

occasionally i will take a beta-alanine that is ionically bound to creatine. its a formula that Matt helped create called Podium Gold, the only supplement that is actually endorsed by the IWF (International Weightlifting Federation). i use it as a preworkout supplement and mix it with some No-Xplode or will sip it throughout my workout.

It truly is the “creatine” of 10 years ago. Ya know? When there was this ridiculous excitement about oh my gosh what does it do?!!??! I am taking it and blowing up on it but I don’t know why! Will it make me retain water? Will it kill me? Will I go bald? haha!! I have been asked so many awesome questions by people about creatine and beta alanine. I just soak them all up. But yes - it can help improve endurance and performance. Most pre-workout supplements load up on that right now to give people that tingly feeling. CAn’t blame them - because that’s what people want to feel!

I would hate that tingly feeling… i would get the slow release which prevents that crazy feeling… i think this slow release with be the new pre workout hype

Mike… why would you take no explode and beta alanine together?? Isn’t that like a double whammy?

No Xplode has beta-alanine in it, so yes it would basically be doubling up on it, but just as with creatine you can’t really overdose on this stuff. if you take extra, it will have the same effects as a regular dose and the rest of it will just be excreted as waste.

essentially, if you are going to take No Xplode, you don’t need to be taking another source of beta-alanine cause it will just be a waste of money.

re: the tingly feeling - not everyone experiences, and it is definitely a strange sensation. some people say that it isn’t tingly, but that they feel like their skin is crawling instead. you should give it a try and see whether you experience it or not before making a decision. the benefits for training are well worth the strange sensation, and you might even be one of the lucky few that doesn’t get the tingles anyways.

I took a pre workout supplement with beta alanine in it and i had the WORST tingling feeling, increased heard rate, claustrophobia, nausea, and anxiety from it…

I seriously had such a bad reaction it scared me… i was driving and i so badly wanted to pull over but i just sucked it up and drove to work so i could jut lay down for a bit.. It was HORRIBLE!!!
I am not sure why i got such a bad reaction…

hahahaha i think i will pass on any pre workout supplements… i will just stick to my coffee if i workout later in the day.
