Great article Tom! What would you recommend for sets and reps for some of the tricep assistance work? Someof the pulldowns, pullovers, etc? I am just curious. Would you recommend something simple like a 3x12 or 3x10? Do any of those tricep assistance exercises vary on reps/sets?
 
Also, do you have any guidelines on when not to bench? AKA You said when you aren’t feeling it to just back off…I am sure there is a fine line between being a wuss and actually not having it in you. Is there a certain % that you can’t hit that would tell you? Say, you can’t hit youir 90%? Or is it just a complete feel thing and knowing yourself?

If you increase your back strength, you will not only blast off your bench press, but you will help to prevent injuries. If you want to have great posture, power, and a noteworthy bench press, you would be crazy not to improve your back strength.
 
So on your back day, do not skip over pull-ups, rows, pulldowns, and other variations of these lifts that will get your back up to snuff.
 
 
Great tip! its all about balance.. not just training legs or just chest.. if you really want to change your body you need balance..
 
in order to prevent injury you cant have lagging body parts.. you will never reach full potential if you neglect other major muscle groups

not only does increasing your back strength help with balancing out your muscles, but it also improves the platform you are pushing off of. having a stronger foundation will allow you to support more weight, and if your body feels more stable, your nervous system will be comfortable allocating more resources toward allowing you to drive and push the weight up and release the brakes a little.
