Thx, Max.  Great article.

Can you talk a little more about the second pull?  Location of hips vs shoulders.  Is there a shrug involved?

The second pull is characterised by a violent extension of the hip and thigh which propulses the bar upward. In order for this extension to happen your torso must be in the proper position to allow for maximum power from the hips and thighs this position is going to be different for every lifter but it will most likely have the lifters shoulders directly above the bar or slightly in front of it and the hips will form an acute with the torso.

There is some controversy among some coaches on weather there is a deliberate shrug thats purpose it to elevate or impart more force on the bar once the second pull has been executed.
In all reality there are some lifters who do and some that don’t so I can’t say there is only one right way.
