Im only 21 do you think it is a go idea that take fish oil just for my overal health? I do also take flax seed oil. I think that taking the fish oil would be good for me in the long run does anyone think that is true?

I’ve been taking fish oil for years now, I would highly recommend it meatsack.
I
have read a lot about the various different benefits, but one thing
that you will notice after just a few short weeks of taking a decent
dosage is the effect it can have on your skin and hair quality. I
haven’t had hair in a while but my skin is definitely softer when I’m
taking the fish oil and I find that I don’t have acne problems which I
used to have when I was younger.

meatsack, you should definitely be taking fish oil. it’s good that you are taking flax oil since it provides a good source of omega-3s, but their fat profiles are slightly different since they come from different sources. for example, flax oil has lignans, plant based antioxidants that help fight free radicals and help with anti-aging among other things. taking both can help with a host of problems.

as jester pointed out, fish oil can be great for a ton of different things in terms of general health, but the benefit that helps lifters like yourself the most are the anti-inflammatory properties as mentioned in the article. the stress that lifting and working out puts on your joints and muscles can be partially alleviated and recovery time quickened by taking ample amounts of fish oil. either way i would definitely recommend taking some.

i’d have to agree with both jester and nuwanee, taking fish oil is essential. in fact, the reason omega-3’s are called “essential” fatty acids is because our body can’t make them on its own; you have to get them from other sources like fish, flax or walnut oils. they are “essential” for cell functioning, transportation of hormones and various nutrients between cells, and the impact they can have on your blood cholesterol is astounding. your body should feel like it’s running cleaner and more efficiently, and you’ll probably notice that you have more energy if you take it regularly (other factors permitting of course).

meatsck, i wouldn’t really take your age into account when suggesting that you take it since everyone can benefit from taking it no matter how old they are. of course everyone’s needs are different, but omega-3 requirements are universal and i would bet that most people are deficient in the amount they get.

as an added bonus, taking over 4g of the stuff has been shown in many studies to increase metabolic rate and fat burning, especially if you are able to find a source that also contains CLA. granted, studies aren’t necessarily conclusive and their is conflicting research on both sides, but i would say at the bare minimum you should take at least 1g per day to cover your basic needs.

You guys said it perfect.  Fish oil has tons of benefits.

My skin and hair improved dramatically. I also think it helped lower my cholesterol from 84 – 54.

How much fish oil do you recommend to take each day?? Does weight, height, diet, gender, and activity level determine how much you should take?

What time of the day do you recommend taking them?

I also heard that should only buy fish oil which states what type of fish the omega 3’s came from on the bottle… Is this true??

What should we look for when buying fish oil?

For what its worth I have always noticed a difference in my joints when taken fish oils.
