Nice article.

Totally taking the science out of it, it has been my observation over the last 20 years that when guys really pushing to the limit, like high level weightlifters, eat a diet high in things like meat and eggs (not egg whites, lol) they recover better and feel better.

In fact it is my opinion based on observation that one can train like an elite strength athlete MUCH MUCH MORE EFFECTIVELY when on a high fat and high cholesterol diet.

lol, i just watched and i’m sitting here clapping like a little girl. (totally kidding)

in all seriousness though, berardi is one of the best minds in the field and i agree with just about everything he says, and this is another case where he is spot on. eggs are absolutely fantastic and they are one of the best foods you can integrate into your diet, for all the reasons he stated and then some.

i also agree with both you guys, egg whites are freakin nasty and i’ve seen the difference in performance with low or non vs. high fat diets with elite lifters and there’s absolutely no comparison.

i used to help prepare meals for the Cal Strength elite lifters and Ivan Abadjiev, probably the best known Olympic lifting coach of all time, told me that if i didn’t give his guys fatty meats with breakfast that he’d feed me to them. true story!

One of the most heartwarming discoveries of my life was when I found out that brisket has one of the highest Oleic acid contens of any red meat.

Almost brough a tear to my eye.

You guys are too funny!!!

I have noting against whole eggs and I know the health benefits they offer… However I don’t mind the taste of egg whites, actually I LOVE scrambled egg whites.  I rather save my healthy fats for 1 tbsp of peanut/nut butter, a few slices of avocado, flank steak, or salmon.

This is why I do not particularly agree with you guys that you SHOULD always eat the yolk… If i am watching my daily fat intake I cannot indulge in just any healthy fats… I rather save them for something I really enjoy…

Plus I always have oatmeal and strawberries in the morning.  I heard that you should not mix carbs and fats in the same meal because it slows down digestions which may aid in storing fat.

What are your thoughts here??

My thoughts are that in an athlete that I was coaching, if the goal was to be as strong and muscular and lean as possible, then I would rather have you ditch the oatmeal than the egg yolks.
