I have a few questions about your tips….

“Use olive oil whenever possible when cooking” ………. When you cook with olive oil at high temperatures doesn’t it diminish the benefits? I would think coconut  and grape seed oil (just to name a few) are better alternatives??

“Use Flax seeds. Not flax seed oil.”…………..  What is your reasoning to avoid flax oil? Is it because it is not in its purest/new state like pre bought milled flax seed??

“Drink milk everyday….NOT A FAN OF THIS!!!  Like Arnold said “Milk is for babies’ lol

“Get some sun, without sun block, several times a week” …. Aren’t you concurred about skin cancer? Why not use a good quality SPF?

this is incorrect.  Cooking almost anything diminishes its nutritional value, but, I dont see me or most people eating everything raw anytime soon.  As long as you keep oil below its smoking point, which I would recomend you do, Olive Oil is fine and the health effects are only minimally distinguished.  There are a ton of reasons why Olive Oil is great to have in your diet, and why cooking with olive oil instead of butter, or even worse margarine, is good.

Flax oxidizes. If you dont grind it yourself, you really have no idea what you are getting.  Just buy the raw form and grind it yourself, chances are your getting a way better product than if you buy the oil or buy it pre-ground.

Arnold was not trying to put on muscle and strength in a drug free environment.  The people I am writing this article for are.  For a variety of reasons, milk is great when you are trying to pack on the calories and gain muscular bodyweight.

Yes, I am aware that there is such a thing as skin cancer.  I am also aware that currently many experts believe that “a good quality SPF” as you put it, has caused more cancer than it has prevented, by making our population chronically defecient in vitamin D.  So, a reasonaable amount of sun each week without the SPF will probably yield a net negative when it comes to promoting cancer, plus adequte vitamin D levels has all kinds of positive affects for performance.

Glenn is spot on about cooking with oils but not going above their smoke points. you can even deep fry foods and still reap the benefits of your oils as long as you don’t go above the smoke point and don’t try to reuse it (oxidation risk). this is actually one of the biggest reasons that deep fried fast foods are horrible for you, because they not only use hydrogenated oils but keep reusing them after they have oxidized and lost any nutritional value.

the rest of that quote from Arnold recommends drinking beer instead of milk doesn’t it? hence the “baby” comparison…are you advocating drinking beer every day like arnold did in his heyday? lol
if you don’t believe me go watch “Pumping Iron”.

and you should get a good 15-20 minutes of “unprotected” sun exposure every day if you can. 15-20 minutes is not nearly long enough to get skin cancer but more than enough to get the vitamin D you need for the day.

Glad someone is agreeing with me about the sun thing.  I get shit for this from every direction.  But the evidence is pretty clean.  For one, it is pretty clear that adequate levels of D improve performance, so much so that old soviet block trainers had athletes in tanning beds when the sun wasnt out.
It is also very apparant that as a society, we are as a whole very vitamine D defecient, or at least a large percentage of us are.
It is also very apparant that D is a cancer preventative for a lot of different cancers.  Some respectable people have said that sun block causes more cancer than it prevents.
I am not so worried about cancer, it doesnt make your clean go up.  But I am worried about performance, and its nice to know that on this topic at least, when I recomend something to increase performance, its also having a positive long term performance on health.

Glad to see that.  I see a couple of errors in that article, but they got the basics right.

The information is out there, doesnt mean I dont still get a lot of hell when I tell people to get into the sun for 15 or 20 without sunblock.

i love that the Russians used to have their athletes lie in tanning beds, gotta love irradiated Olympians, haha.

what errors did you find in the article? it looked pretty good to me.

I also find it funny that people argue with you over 20 minutes of sun exposure. are these people who actually have some intelligence backing them up or are these lay people who don’t trust your advice?

I agree that a little sun expose is healthy however I would still highly advice people to wear a good quality sun block and do their research…

Yes, a lot of commercial sun screens are garbage and have cancer causing agents however i think the benefits out way the negatives… I know many people who have been diagnosed with skin cancer and even died of melanoma.

Individuals with, fair skin, blue eyes, and freckles are at high risk for skin cancer and it would be foolish not to put protection on especially if they are outside for 4+ hours.

I would hope people reading this do not assume it is safe to put zero protection on when they are exposed to uv rays for a long period of time.

I think your comment could be misleading to many individuals; that is why i am stating my opinion…

Use a good quality sun block if you are planning to be outside in the sun for a long period of time…  It’s not worth it to get ageing spots, wrinkles, sun damage and skin cancers!!!

Check out this site bellow for ratings and good quality sun screen!

it’s not like we’re recommending people never wear sunscreen. if a person is going to be outside for 4+ hours then of course they should use some sunscreen.

every single time we’ve made a mention to getting unprotected sun, we have said “FOR 15-20 MINUTES”. i don’t really know how people can misinterpret that unless they don’t read everything we wrote.

i’m gonna stick by our statements that they get 15-20 MINUTES OF UNPROTECTED SUN EVERY DAY, WHICH WILL PREVENT MORE CANCER THAN IT WILL CAUSE.YOU ONLY NEED 15-20 MINUTES A DAY, DON’T BE STUPID AND LAY OUT WITHOUT SUNSCREEN FOR 4 HOURS!

happy? hahaha =)
