green tea before bed? while it isn’t coffee, green tea still has caffeine in it, and i wouldn’t recommend drinking it before bed unless you’re drinking the caffeine-free version. chamomile or kava kava tea would be much better alternatives.

Flexion exercises like sit-ups, leg raises, jack-knifes, and weighted ab pull-downs are the way to go if you want to cause hypertrophy to those ab muscles and make them bigger”

Do you guys think this is 100% true? I definitely think they are more effective then planks and isometric work but i would think dead lifts would cause more all around growth?

No matter how big and pronounced your abdominal muscles are, they won’t show if you have a bunch of baby fat covering them up.”

Omg!! People need to realize its all about diet diet diet… its sooo dumb!! I see people in the gym spending hours training their abs hoping to see an abdominal pop out under their layer of 15lb over weight body fat!!! Seriously people??? Does this really make any sense?

“Instead of spending an hour and a half jogging on the treadmill, work in some High Intensity Interval Training, which will take a fraction of the time with similar results.”

High intensity intervals all the way baby!! I have no more patients for steady state… it is sooo boring and time consuming… Switching to hiit with change your whole out look of cardio and working out…

is ANYTHING 100% true? i agree that forward flexion exercises are the way to go for causing hypertrophy on your abs. deadlifts are a great exercise and will help put mass on your upper back, hamstrings, and even your arms to some extent, but just like with isometric exercises and power lifts, your core is bracing itself with deadlifts. your erector spinae may get a bit of a workout in if you are using more lower back than you should, but i wouldn’t expect hypertrophy in the frontal plane muscles on an exercise utilizing the posterior chain.

not for ab hypertrophy. they definitely help build a stronger core, but i wouldn’t expect to see the abdominal muscles get bigger just from doing them. the one caveat would be if you wear a weightbelt, but it wouldn’t be the deadlifts causing the resistance, it would be the ability to push your abs out against the belt.

in short, no, i agree that the flexion exercises are the way to go for ab hypertrophy, not deadlifts. in particular, weighted flexion exercises help to build up your “six pack”

I gotta stress again that diet is the absolute #1 factor when it comes to your abs, but there are a ton of little things you can do to help. None of the little stuff matters though if you can’t get your diet under control and eliminate some of that fat off your midsection.

Absolutely!! This is by far the most critical point! Diet meals everything… (Don’t worry! I am not talking about the elite Olympic athletes on the site) I don’t want to hear what you have to say
