This is one of my favorite articles.  These ingredients are perfect alternatives for making your favorite desserts healthy.

People usually think the only way to make a cookie is by adding white flour, lard, butter and sugar.

You can actually make a healthy cookie taste GREAT just by researching and changing the ingredients.

There are so many different ingredients that are HEALTHY which give you the same results including texture, sweetness, leveling and rising agents, and most importantly taste.

I love your idea of using almond meal, flax meal, garbanzo/white bean flour, rolled oats, and oat bran instead of flour

My favorite company which sells these ingredients is called Bob Mills.  His products are all natural and taste great.

I also the loved your use of healthy fats, such as: Smart Balance Spread, Almond or Macadamia Nut Oil.

Have you ever tried cooking with avocado or nut butters, they are also great alternatives.

What is ghee/clarified butter, I never heard of this????

I also never use real sugar as a sweetener. I use fruits, stevia, splenda, raw honey, agave nectar, flavored protein powders, coco, or dry fruits

Last but not least, I loved your use of healthy liquids which include unsweetened almond milk or grain milks, yogurt, and raw milk.

I am a big fan of unsweetened almond milk, light soy milk, fat free organic milk, greek yogurt, or fat free sugar free cool whip.

One thing I have to disagree with you is your choice for only using whole eggs.

I love cooking with egg whites. I rather use other sources of healthy fat such as nuts or nut butters for the taste

Whole eggs add extra unneeded calories; you really can’t taste the different between whole eggs and egg whites when cooking.

If I need to thicken my recipe I add xanthan gum which basically has no calories.

In all, GREAT article, I am all about creating healthy alternatives for your favorite foods.  It helps with unwanted binges and cheats.

YOU NEER FEEL DEPRIVED!!  At least I don’t!!

yeah, Bob Mills is great if you can find it, although i’ve heard the almond meal doesn’t work very well and you end up with runny baked goods if you use it.

ghee/clarified butter is just butter with the milk solids removed. you can buy it in specialty stores or make your own by simmering butter and removing the white foamy stuff on top. this is huge in Indian cooking and Ayurvedic Medicine.

you can use egg whites if you want, i just wouldn’t recommend it and you should read the egg whites article if you haven’t already. the fat in egg yolks is some of the best you will find in nature and it contains a ton of good stuff that is hard to find anywhere else. there are better places to use the nut butters and oils for substitutions than the eggs.

Great article! I’ve used some of these tips with clients, never heard of white bean flour though. I looked up the nutrition facts and it’s got over 10g of fiber per cup! Does it taste beany?

that’s right, white bean flour really doesn’t taste any different than white flour, but the texture is a tad bit grainier than regular flour. i used this stuff to make a chocolate chip orange biscotti the other day and it turned out phenomenally.
