SPRINT!
take a look at pictures of athletes like track stars
or even football players. the reason they have such nicely shaped
backsides, including their glutes and hammies, is cause sprinting is
one of the absolute best exercises for developing muscle in those
areas.

instead of doing steady state cardio, mix in some HIIT and more resistance training.

some of my favorite role models are Pauline Nordin and Jamie Eason,
have you seen the badonk-a-donks they tote around with them? i’ve read
interviews from them where they say the key to their amazing cabooses
are high volumes of heavy squats, deadlifts, etc.
one of my
favorite leg exercises is the step up and i like to throw in a reverse
lunge to make it extra challenging. doing 15-20 of those just with body
weight is extremely intense!

HIIT sprinting is defiantly more taxing on the body.  It helps speed your metabolism, prevents muscle break down, increases fat loss, elevates your heart rate and so much more.

I do however notice that my legs have increased in size (muscle mass) which I am not to happy about.  I don’t know if it is due to my diet, HIIT, or squatting heavier.  I am confused because they say that women can not gain muscle mass unless they increase calories…. Well…… I didn’t increase my calories????

Do you think that I should go back to steady state to burn off some muscle and squat less weigh? Basically I will be decreasing the intensity of my workout… that does not make sense…

Any suggestions?

i don’t know man, there isn’t much sexier to me than a chick with some nice muscular legs. i prefer that to the flabby tree trunks that a lot of girls tote around. being able to see some quad and hamstring definition really does it for me.

i guess it would help cut them down a bit if you switched to more steady state, but that would be a real shame :-(

another comment regarding the cardio: if you are going to do cardio and you want to focus on hamstrings and butt, stay off the treadmill!
the anatomical function of the hamstrings is to pull the leg back (and bending the knee but thats besides the point). the motor operated tread of the treadmill moves your foot back for you after you step forward, thus negating any work that the hamstrings would be required to do with a normal walking or running motion. as you can see using a treadmill for your cardio work will not result in any work on your hamstrings or butt.

oh and i totally agree with spitz about the legs. i love a chick with legs where you can actually see quads and hamstrings, and it usually means she has a great ass too, =)
