I noticed that some people have trouble getting themselves to start a diet or to start exercising. They always end up saying they will start but end up pushing it until next week and when it comes up again they push it off again.
I was wondering if anyone has a good way to motivated and convince yourself to start dieting and excerising?

IN my personal opinion I like setting goals before i start anything. I think you have to have goals if you really want to be motivated to train or diet. The problem is a lot of people do not set goals that are measureable. MAny people when they go on a diet or start excerising set a goal to lose weight which is good but not measureable. You can lose a pound and you met your goal. To set a goal it should be more like i want to lose 15lbs in 2 months. Something that is not impossible but you will have to work if you want to achieve it. It is a good motivational tool at least for me and may help others too hopefully. Setting a time frame is a good idea too that way you can push off working out tell next time because you wont be able to meet your goal.

I notice when i reach my goals i feel excited about it… in my mind i ‘KNOW” i will reach my goals and when i feel this way i always reach them… when i start making excuses like “oh well i am going to Vegas this month so my diet and training with be off” i fail…

When you set a goal you have to be ready to commit and think ahead… Think about your schedule and how you will over come set backs… setting a goal in a time frame is always great but sometimes could discourage me… I just set my mind to something and realize it won’t happen over night… i just stay positive and excited to see the results

I agree with you but if i dont set a time frame it is a lot easier for me to push it off. I be like well its ok if i dont do good this week i just do better next week. The time frame gives me more of an urgent kind of feeling. So i be like i have to get this done as soon as possible. you know.

I think it works for anyone that tends to push things off. If your one of those people that do not have issues starting things then a time frame is not really important but i would recommend it to anyone that is either getting ready for a competition or want to lose weight for a wedding etc.

take a picture of yourself in good lighting, in your underwear, in front of a mirror, both front and back. that’s usually enough to take a good look at how fat you are at the moment and enough motivation to get started, lol

So true! I love seeing the progress. I did it at once almost every and it was amazing to see the changes.

You don’t notice it at the moment however when you look back at picture it shows.
If you gained a few pounders and ready to shed them off its really motivating to look back at your progress pics. it raises your confidence and drive!

I like using a quote of some kind to get me started. Usually something that motivates you to get started or keep pushing through. My quote that i use is “Champions pay the price” from Remember the Titans. Love that movie. But for me its just a reminder that no one just gets to the top. They have to fight for every inch or in my case kilo to become the best. Those days that are tough, the ones you want to quit but dont. Those are the days that make champions!

The main thing I would say to keep yourself to a good healthy workout program (including your diet) is that you make it realistic. Meaning you dont bite off more then you can chew in a sense, take baby steps and those baby steps will get you to your goal in a suttle mannor. If you try a crash diet approach then you will end up going right back to were you where before and that is not what you want in the end. So the biggest thing I would think is to keep a realistic goal and to not go off of course when doing this.
