I would personally watch out for Jon North, and Caleb Ward as they are good friends of mine and BOTH have a chance at getting on the Pan Am team.
Rachel Crass is  another great lifter looking to secure her spot on the Pan Am team.
As for the local competition im sure who is gonna come out of the woodwork so to speak. Im sure its gonna be lots of fun and very exciting for anyone watching!

Congrats to you Jon making 141kg snatch and a 184kg clean and jerk!!!!
That puts you on the Pan Am team along with Caleb Ward who also made an American Jr. record of 203kg in the Clean and Jerk.

Awesome job guys!

the Pan American Games are a multi-sport event held between all the
American countries every 4 years, the year before the Summer Olympics.the 2011 games will be held in Guadalajara, Mexico and it looks like Jon and Caleb will be representing the US in weightlifting. it’s quite an accomplishment, like being on the US National and Olympic teams.

thanks everyone for all the support, it means a lot to me.
llulko, i’m in the 94kg weightclass. i’ve worked hard to get to those weights and it’s really gratifying to hit those levels and make the Pan Am team, it’s been one of my goals all year.

well i’m taking a couple weeks off now that the Arnold is over but while training for a competition i typically train 5 days a week, couple sessions a day focusing on clean & jerks, snatches, with a lot of heavy squats and overhead presses thrown in. i don’t really do much cardio.

No, it is not late. I mean the next one. Obviously I would be 6 months late if I were talking about the 2011 Arnold. I posted that within a week or two of the announcement that the 2012 Arnold Championships will also be the 2012 Olympic Trials.

We first see if they are qulified enough as a weightlifter both numbers wise and potential wise, then we talk amongst ourselves to see if we like that person and think if he or she would be a good fit for the team. After that we talk to them and see what their goals are and if we are the right place for them, based on out training program we want everyone to be in full confidence of it. After that if everything looks good we have them fill out there w2 and then they start working and lifting for cal strength full time.

Well the athlets get sponsored, so that is how they get the money, along with other miscellaneous jobs cal strength provides to them. But yes, it is a lifestyle and that is why these guys are very good at what they do.

Hold on, are you serious? You think professional athletes should have to PAY their coaches to train? NFL Players should have to pay to play football? Baseball, basketball players, golfers, tennis players - should all have to PAY to play? Weightlifting should be NO different. It is an OLYMPIC sport, so, the best athletes SHOULD receive a very good stipend to support their olympic dream.
-
Sorry, I am not being mean haha! It is just I Feel very strongly on this subject because they do train 2x/day every day, study tape, stretch, cold tub, foam roll, 8+ hours a day of WEIGHTLIFTING. IT is a full time job, so they should get paid as such (IF they are good enough).

From my understanding they get set up with a part-time job at the gym. They coach younger athletes about 4 hours per day (3-4 days per week), and also do some personal training if they are qualified.

Oh boy!! I hit a nerve… you are 100% right though

I didn’t think of it that way… It just seems like when these athletes post on our thread they give their opinions as if it applies to the general public as well (examples of their training frequency, diet, recovery, sleeping patterns ect)

It made me think of them as the general public athletes and not PRO athletes…

I have been in so MANY arguments with these guys about their suggestions but what they don’t seem to acknowledge is that most people (the general public and hard core body builders) don’t live their lifestyle were training IS their job..

They would made suggestions as if it applies to everyone so it made me think of them as everyone and not a professional athlete… i am wrong though, now i realize it is their job and life style just like baseball, football, and basketball players..

There training volume, frequency, recovery and diet are VERY different then the average gym goers training for physical aspects.

Do you understand why i thought that?
