So, any predictions as to who is going to represent the US in Olympic weightlifting in 2012?  Some guys over here at California Strength might :o)  Anyone else?  Kendrick Farris probably.

Actually I had a question about this too. Is the U.S. Pan American team the same as the national team or the Olympic team? Are those the guys who are usually picked for the international competitions?

In each international meet, including the Pan ams, the best team possible is picked based upon a series of qualifying meets.  these qualifyers are slightly different for pan ams, worlds, etc, so the teams tend to change…  but if you are in the top 2-3, your probably gonna be on every team.    spots 6, 7, or 8 are likely to change.

Laura, the lifters are all ranked against each other based on how close they get to the qualifying total in their weight class.  The top 8 ranked men and top 7 ranked women go to the competition.
Weightlifting is individual, everyone competes agains others in their own weight class, but teams are ranked similarly to a wrestling tournament, 1st place is worth a certain  number of points, 2nd place less, etc.  The team with the highest number of points would be considered to have won…

Laura, Max training on the 8th day is a joke, a joke referencing the fact that God’s creation of our world took 6 days, after which he rested on the 7th day.  Then he lifted with Max on the 8th day, get it?
It had nothing to do with the wrist injury.  I can only assume that if Max really was hanging out with God and they were doing the odd squat session together, the wrist thing wouldnt be much of an issue.
And, no, Max does not compete against Jon, as he is injured, and it looks like even with one more surgery the injury is likely a career ending one.

Ohh nooo!!! That is horrible!! Sorry Max!!

How did you hurt it?? Was it a continuing injury??

I guess you can pass along your desire and motivation through coaching.

Haha sorry it took me a while to get the joke.. I guess i was just nothing thinking about GOD at the moment… That was pretty funny though.

Not mean, just realistic.  And Kendrick is the top 85kg lifter in the USA right now, while Chad is the top 77kg lifter.

Kendrick will take 1 spot no matter what. The 2nd spot will be a fierce battle between those 3. Lets hope Donny and Jon both make it and knock Kendrick off the list!

Right now it really looks like the top 3 could be Kendrick Farris, Pat Mendes, and Donny Shankle. However, if Jon North, Jared Fleming, Chad Vaughn, or Pat Judge have an amazing day they could all secure a slot as well!
