“I use it in lots of Asian dishes to get the sauces a certain thickness, in my recipe for pepian - a Guatemalan stew - that used to have 1 1/2 cups of flour! I use it to thicken the ketchup and barbecue sauce .

I also use it in sushi rice because it helps to get the right stickiness that sugar used to give (I make sushi rolls using just 1 Tbl rice per sheet - yum!)
Thicken Thin is so versatile because you can add it to liquids either hot or cold. You can also start with a little and add more later as needed.
Some of my favorite recipes (from the past) require making a roux. Although Thicken Thin doesn’t brown like flour, I have found that I can use a tiny amount of flour in the oil or butter to make a roux of the proper flavor and color, then use Thicken Thin to get the correct thickness in the dish.

“I love using Thiicken Thin not/starch Thickener for everything….and at 0 grams of carbs, you can’t go wrong!
I never eat my meats and poultry dry anymore. I have gravy when I want it…I use it for stews, and soups when you want a thicker soup. I thicken my low-carb bbq sauce that I make, and I also thicken my DaVinci Syrups for drizzling over pancakes or ice cream, etc. Those syrups are a little thin and runny…..this stuff makes it thicker like real maple syrup for pancakes, or add it to raspberry or caramel and drizzle over ice cream or berries for a thicker syrup…..YUMMMMM!
You will never have lumps using this product. Just use a wire whisk, and it comes out smooth and creamy every time. You can add it to hot or cold liquids too….,.very versatile!”

Haha, I wonder what’s in this stuff. If they stopped making it maybe it was based on an ingredient that was really bad, or maybe it had a ton of trans fats in it or something. Unless someone has tried it already I don’t know if we’ll ever see, looks like they are all sold out =o/

Thickin thin not/Starch used for sauces, soups & gravies

-Contains no sugar, starch or eggs

-Use like cornstarch-but it’s even better!

*dissolves more easily
*no lumps on cooking
*more thickening power at higher concentrations
*thickens cold liquids

Thickin thin not/Starch can recreate the thick rich textures you want without adding a lot of calories, fat, or carbohydrates. Suggested uses: sauces, soups, gravies, salad dressings.

Ingredients: a proprietary blend of vegetable gums(acacia, guar, carob, xanthan.

Nutrition per teaspoon: 7 calories, 0g fat, 1.7g carb all of which is soluble and fermentable dietary fiber, 0.1g protein, 5mg sodium.

Directions: Use not/Starch like cornstarch. However, although one teaspoon thickens much like to one teaspoon of cornstarch, one tablespoon of not/Starch thickens like two tablespoons of cornstarch.

ThickenThin not/Starch — 8 ounces a stand-up pouch with zipper closure.

if it’s all vegetable gums than it is probably fine, although any time the words “proprietary blend” are used you have to watch out. it’s a way for them to not list everything they put in a product.

if it truly is just vegetable gums, i am wondering why they stopped producing it. maybe people were kinda freaked out by the ingredients list, cause all those plant based gums sound like chemical additives, but they are actually “natural” ingredients.

You only use a little amount… i can’t see how it can effect someone.

Maybe they did not market the product properly or the profit margin was too little??

… It looks like a solid product to me…

However, as Pete mentioned i would be curious to see what else is in the product…

Unfotunately the company that produced this has gone out of business. When I went to reorder the other day, there was a post about it. I am so bummed but going to try the one I found at another site. thankfully I have some of my thickener left so I will use it sparingly
