Hey does anyone know how many calories you could possibly burn swimming 20-30 laps a day?I have been swimming latley freestyle and feel great when I’m done, but was curious how many calories are actually being burned.
Another thing after I swim I’m so hungry why is that?I’m not hungry when I do 30 min of cardio.
Thanks.

kinda depends on how hard you are swimming, how big the pool is, and how long it takes you to complete all of it.

i can tell you that you are working a lot harder swimming for 30 minutes than you are doing normal cardio. when you swim you are going against the resistance of the water. maybe if you ran against bands, or wearing a weight vest, it would be the equivalent in terms of the resistance you face while swimming. THAT’s why you are so hungry after you swim and not as hungry after you run.

You do still sweat a lot when you are swimming, and I’m sure your body has to work extra hard burning calories to maintain optimal warmth due to the colder environment being surrounded by water. That would make sense.

As a form of cardio, swimming is great! It builds muscle, is low impact, and is great for improving cardiovascular health. Check out our article on swimming as a form of exercise:
