Did you know using certain language can make your workout more productive? You already have a great routine you use, and your at your fitness level you want to achieve. But do you have a vocabulary to match?
Choose a sentence that motivates and inspires your fitness. Such as “Im strong, I feel unstoppable” If you’re looking for a mantra
that will help you overcome a specific challenge, such as mastering a
new move, choose sentences that include action verbs that instruct you
to accomplish your task (“Lift strong, breathe smooth.”) Repeat your
mantra during your workout . I do this inside my head of coarse so I’m not disturbing others..
By thinking of yourself as a
“runner,” “tri-athlete,” or “fitness competitor” you
can use language to make an active lifestyle a part of your identity.
This can be especially helpful if you’re just starting out in fitness,
or facing a new challenge. By assuming that you’re already successful,
you’ll feel like you belong in the gym, at the running track, in the
weight room or on the fitness stage, and will feel less intimidated to
tackle your fit tasks. In addition, by making your daily language and
interaction with others, reflect your new identity, you’re a lot more
likely to have confidence in your ability to achieve your desired
result.
Research shows that individuals
with a positive outlook are more inspired to reach their goals, and are
more likely to exercise. Eliminate pessimistic, counter-productive
words, such as “can’t,” “quit” and “fail” from your language. Replace
them with positive words such as “can,” “succeed” and “win”.
What do you think?

This reminds me when i played football. We had a sports physcologist that would talk to us once a week. He talked a lot about things that were kind of common sense but one thing i did learn from was to always think positive. Everyone tries to do this obviously but he taught us about when your thinking about doing some like lifting for example. You have to think about “MAking it”, or “Do it correctly”. Dont say or think about ” Dont Miss it” or ” Dont Mess up” because your mind will on hear the end of it. So when you say “Dont Mess up” your mind processes “Mess up” so it could really be bad if you thinking that way ever though your dont mean too. For me it helped so hopefully it helps others too.

yeah, people severly underestimate the power of their mentality when it comes to training, whether it is lifting weights or running a marathon. our bodies are capable of so much more than most people think, and often times it is more about getting past that mental barrier and taking off the brakes than it is about stepping on the gas.

I watched a very good talk on the subject and one of the amazingly simple things most of us don’t do…yet we desire is to practice or meditate on the feelings we truly want to feel. We talk about practicing our craft but how many of us practice our emotions that we want to feel the most. It may sound a bit silly but think about visualization. How important it is in sports we want to put ourselves in a state of competition mode. What if we want to feel love or happiness. You have to make a conscious effort to bring memories of love , happiness, whatever and practice those feelings. How many times do you think about how to be happy with where you are, who you are with, etc…I challenge people to practice your mental state. Sit quietly and meditate on that feeling , emotion that you are unhappy with and form that pathway and strengthen it with your thought practice.

Well i think everyone has their own form of meditation…
What is yours?

Sometimes it’s surrounding me in beautiful scenery… it’s so calming and peaceful…

For example staring at t he ocean listening the wave, enjoying the Colorado Mountains, an open beautiful field ext… Something peaceful and amazing looking on a beautiful day!

Ya i like a place with a nice view that is quiet but you can look around and see whats going on in the world because you can look at it and just slow everything down. You take time and realize you are always on the mover and sometimes you just need to slow it down and think.

Well said rob… It just slows you down and makes you think about your life, whether it’s just appreciating the people in it or just taking a moment to relax and free your mind of all thoughts.
