Interesting study on strength training for women: http://aminogenblog.typepad.com/aminogen/2010/04/for-better-muscle-tone-go-lighter-an-
d-repeat.html

So do you stick with “light” weights because you’ve been told light weights + more reps are better for fat loss, or do you go heavier?

Nice study!

It’s hard to argue with the results that some of the most beautiful women in the world such as Jamie Eason and Paula Nordine, notorious heavy lifters, get. I’m sure just about any girl in the world wouldn’t mind looking like that. This kind of information should be more publicized but you’ll never see anything like this in any of the popular women’s magazines.

I’d say I stay in my moderate range of 50-75%. I know what the studies say but I am not a competitor or bodybuilder and have just been in maintenance mode for a while.

Yeah I go for about 80% and never seem to go beyond getting toned and stronger. I’ve never “bulked up,” but like the study said, it definately seems to rev up my metabolism.
It made me think of an interview I saw of Gweneth Paltrow with her personal trainer Tracy Anderson.  She also trains Madonna.  She said she tells women to never lift more than 3 pounds!

Wow, really?! She said that? Ugh…

No wonder I’ve never heard of her. That’s downright stupid… She probably made a lot more money that way since Gwyneth and Madonna had to do a lot more work to get the same results only using 3 lb dumbbells…
