What this sport means to me!
Some of you know me and some of you may not anyway my name is Wade Butcher. I am the Owner of Butch’s Barbell team located in Columbus Ohio. I am also a proud member of Jon Elicks Team Darksyde Ironwear located in Circleville Ohio at Ironworx gym. I have been involved in this sport of and on for 24 years. I hold no World records no National records and have a time holding onto my state records. I have never posted an elite total although I am trying hard again to achieve this (now that a long time injury is no longer a threat). I am however very dedicated and hold my team to high standards. I to tell you the truth do not care how strong they are if they put there best foot forward and lift to the peak of their ability every time I am satisfied. I expect them to lift with integrity and to show respect to everyone who dares to approach the stage.
I was twelve years old when I was introduced to the sport and was immediately hooked entering my first competition later that year. I noticed immediately how helpful and respectful the other competitors are yet so intense at the same time.
This Brotherhood that we live for is one thing I know in my heart I can always depend on. The training is sick and painful at best but we love it. WHY? Because it defines us it allows us to break away from the reality of our world for a short time. I know that the friends I have made in this sport are some of the most dedicated and supportive individuals I have ever met. As a matter of fact these friends are some of the best friends I have ever had long distance or not I know I can depend on them and they can me.
This sport has made me who I am today and means more to me than even I will probably ever know myself. From the excitement of the competition to the long training sessions, the success, the failures, the friends I have made to the brothers we have all lost. This is my life and I live it to please myself and my family and my brothers. I am proud to be a member of the (STRONGEST) brotherhood in the world.

“this sport” is powerlifting right?

that’s a great post Wade. i’m sure a lot of athletes feel the exact same way. for many of them, their sport is their passion and the thing they live for, and their life wouldn’t be the same without the sport to compete in and work at and to give them something to live for. there are a lot of people out there who don’t have anything like a sport to focus on and to motivate them. it sounds like you have a very fulfilling life, and i’m sure that your sport plays a huge huge role in that. thanks for sharing man

WADE!! I loved your post!! It actually touched me because i can totally relate…

It insured me about my passions for training and living a healthy lifestyle… You are 100% rights… it’s more then just a hobby… it defines us…

You are so genuine and have the biggest heart… you only want the best for other and your big heart is what inspires people to live their dreams and live an honest goal oriented life..

Everything you wrote completely defines you… You have a BIG heart, amazing father, husband, coach, leader, and friend… You stay true to yourself which is so humbling and makes me want to be a better person… If there is one person who truly knows happiness and the real value of life its you. NEVER change!!!!

You have made a difference in so many people’s lives and I hope everyone around you knows that… YOU INSPIRE ME!!
You have to surround yourself around positive people who share the same passion, drive, goals, and minds set… that’s your brother hood, meditation, and outlet for you to express who you really are.. LOVE IT!

TREMENDOUS post. Thank you for sharing that.

What lifting weights means to me:

Man, this sport is everything to me. It is my life, my livelihood. Everything I think about is involved with lifting weights. Do I want to eat this? How will it make me feel for my workout? Will I feel too bloated for my workout? How many carbs does it have in it? Is it too much as I am trying to lean down and develop a better physique?
-
What kind of nutrients does this food have in it? Will it HELP me perform better? Will it give me more energy? What purpose does this food serve? It is always just me and the weights. That is the GREATEST thing about the sport. It is just me and the barbell. The twoof us. No matter what it will feel the same everyday. I do not. But, I know ti weighs the same. That is the best part.
-
It challenges me in ways I have never been challenged before. I go to places mentally I haven’t been before. It is up to ME on whether or not I win the war with the weights. ME and ME alone!!!!!!!!

MIKE!! Amazing i love it… it’s so true!!! everything we do from…. what we eat, who we hang out with, what time we wake up and go to bed, how we schedule our day, weekends, and vacations ect.. ALL revolve around our passion (working out)

There is a difference between “US” (Hard core gym goers) and people who just go to the gym to lift a little, take some class and walk on a treadmill (even if they do it 4-5 times a week)…

They do it because they feel like they have to or just have nothing better to do..

Training for us is our security blanket… its what defines us… we don’t miss a day at the gym because something came up… we figure out a way to make our schedules work… even if it means doing a double session or waking up at the butt crack of dawn.. For us there is no excuse… Its just part of who we are… Our day will not be the same without it (our security blanket)

Many people who just “workout” don’t understand OUR meaning of working out… that’s why it’s important to surround yourself around a brother/sisterhood that encourages your life style…

IRON ALL THEY WAY LOL!!

llulko, you are SO right. It is absolujtely what defines us. We all identify ourselves as fitness fanatics for the most part. It is WHO WE ARE. It is HOW WE SPEND OUR DAY! It is WHAT WE LOOK FORWARD TO. And, male or female, it is a sort of brotherhood where everyone can relate.

I love your last statement!! When people share our passion they can relate to our WHOLE lifestyle… they know what we go through everyday and we love bouncing off new ideas and talking about new goals… it really is a brother/sisterhood like a fraternity /sorority.

It’s a special bond of understanding and supporting each other… haahahahah Mike should we start a special fraternity that people who qualify can join??
What would you call it?

SUAS

Shut up and squat
