I would love to listen to music when I train but I am not allowed to!  I will say that when coach is not around and I have to train without him, I will crank the music on our gym stereo!  I listen to LiL Wayne, DMX, Bullet for my Valintine, eminem, and a lot of rage against the machine mother truckers!  Music helps me a lot to get amped for lifting, or just competing in general.  I try to limit the amount of music though becuase I dont want to depend on getting jacked up with music, becuase a lot of meets and training sessions music is not allowed.  I try to teach myself to be able to get pumped and ready to go in a quite room, becuase when I am at the Olympics there wont be any damn music so I better get use to it.  You are very lucky right now, I miss my football days and the team all working out together, music playing loud, everybody yelling at eachother and so forth.  I feel that the weight room alone brings a football team togther more than anything.  It dosen’t even matter what the strength coach has them doing in my opinion, if everybody beleives in the workouts, and pushes eachother than thats all that matters.  “a team that has the worst workouts but beleives in them will succeed, the team that has the best workouts but does not beleive will not do as well.”  I forgot who said this, but I love this line, very true.  what kind of music do you train to?? are you guys allowed to listen to music when your football team lifts??

Donny Shankle would say “This ain’t no disco!” Donny doesn’t allow music cause he is old school and thinks like Vince Gironda that music just distracts you from focusing on the lifts. FYI there are counterarguments…

Donny Shankle listens to the sound of rain on a tin roof when he lifts!   or the sound of a baboling brook in the rain forest, now thats hard core!

I like to listen to rock music if it is available, otherwise I dont really mind whats on, I think that if you can squat in any conditiong then it helps you alot. Working out in the same atmosphere all the time can lead to being dependant on a certain situation which probably will not be duplicated so why always depend on it, this is why I dont really have a preferance in training with music. But if I had to pick it would probably be rammstien du hast.
