Well, everyone always calls me the queen of random workouts, so, I called my workout log that haha! I like to do workouts spontaneously and that is a lot of the fun for me. I love not stressing over them, but, being able to do whatever I Want whenever I want. I love to “freestyle” it so to speak.
Today’s workout:
15 Minute Jog
10 Minutes Jump Rope
Sprints on and off for 20 minutes up a hill
It was soo nice out I had to get outside and work out today…I love the outdoors!

I am a big
fan of that to especially when i train at night and the gym is busy.. i don’t freak
out when someone is using a machine or
squat rack that was planned for my workout.. i will just do something else.

I have to
say though… when i do plan my workouts
i have the best work ever! I am
super motivated and have certain expectations… i am just more focused… i have been doing random workouts  for the past 8 months however just recently ( about a
month ago) i just started planning them out.. I don’t remember the last time i
had such an amazing pump… i honestly think will plan them out more often…

I do see
your point though… less aggravation and you end up doing things you want…
there are some days i just don’t feel like squatting!

A set workout regimen is usually the way to go when you are specifically training for something, you know? I just am not currently training for any contest at the time, so, I don’t want to have to stress about completing a workout! I am enjoying taking a more relaxed approach to it. Of course, I still work extremely hard once I do work out, but, I just don’t have them planned.
-
I am the same as you lluko, I go months of planned workouts into months of non planned workouts. That in itself is switching up the style of workouts and is fun at different times of the year!

Whoa!! That looks like an amazing workout. How did that go??

Sorry for the lack of workouts lately. I was enjoying life a little bit throughout memorial weekend! It was nice. A lot of grilling and having a good time with family. But, as of yesterday it was time to jump back on the horse and get riding!
I did 30 minutes of very intense HIIT cardio yesterday. I was alternating between the stairstepper, eliptical, jumping rope, and sprints outside. It was an incredible workout!! I started my morning off amazingly after the long memorial weekend. YAhhooooo

that workout was killer.. the gym has been sooo hot for the past week due to teh heat so i took it a little easier byt adding a little more rest between

as for memorial day..
We went away for a long weekend to vermont with another couple…

Vermont is beautiful!

We hiked, went on the boat, horse back riding, walked around town, drank LOTS of wine and apps by the fire pit and indulged at lunch and dinner…
 Oppps again!!!!

These weekends are killing me though…it’s the god dam cheese and wine!

I really want to get focused now.. i keep falling off track but summer is HERE and its now or never.. i want to feel comfortable on the beach.
I will just have to lay low on the weekends for at least a month. Fingers crossed

That is so amazing though! You need getaways every once in a while to TRULY kick back and enjoy. It sounds like you like wine about as much as I do haha! It’s ok. I only ever get carried away about once a month, so 12x/year. That isn’t too bad, right? AT least I know I am not an alcoholic haha! Everything is ok in moderation. Besides smoking.
-
That is so awesome though! I am jealous like crazzzzy. Ugh. That sounds so fun. I have been hammering away at the gym, certainyl ready for a break like that. Maybe I need to plan a getaway for the 4th!

In terms of my workouts lately - I have been doing a lot of weight training! I really did a lot of cardio leading up to summer, and, now that the warm weather has really hit I am trying to lean up and get a bit more ripped. Of course, I don’t want that bodybuilder type of ripped…I want that girly type of toned that looks sexy and still really feminine!
-
Today was:
Squats - 3x12, then 1x15 @ 10lbs heavier!
Hip Sled - 2x15 (heavy weight for me)
Leg Extensions - 2x10
Leg Curls - 2x10
Lateral Lunges - 2x15 each leg (Exhausted! phew)
I was sooo grateful I had a few girl friends of mine go through todays workout with me. Otherwise I would have been struggling!

I think this is great, some of the best workouts are random or done “on the fly.”

Sometimes you just don’t have a choice! If you feel some pain in your muscle or tendon you have to change up your original workout… this give you a chance to be creative and try new things.

Also if someone is using your machine you have to be opened minded and target the same muscle with other exercise… the key is to be open minded and try new things.

I still prefer to plan my workouts… i feel like i get a lot more done… but “shit happens” lol

I like to do spontaneous workouts too, particularly if I don’t think I’ll be able to last through my “planned” workout. My attention span is really limited, so the routine has to peak my interest or I’ll bail! My workouts tend to be more intense and successful when nthey are unplanned!

I am really shocked to here this from everyone… usually planned workouts are more sucessful. They keep you on track and set on your goal…

Once in a while it’s good but i am don’t think this is very smart or successful in my opinion

Maybe its good for your average gym goer but not a due heart lifter who has a goal in mind

You’re right! Random workouts can occasionally take place the odd time, but workouts really should be programmed (I’m a guilty frequent freestyler!). As a newbie trainer, I wouldn’t freestyle my client’s routine, so why should I compromise myself and freestyle mine?? I’m guilty! Need to change that!

Wow Lisa… you just made a VERY valid point… you wouldn’t free style your clients then why should you train yourself differently!!!

There is a reason why you put thought and reason into your clients workouts… same applies to you… its just good to be open minded when you don’t have access to equipment, limited on time, or injured.

For example i wanted to do Bulgarian split squats last night however i was running out of time… so i decided to not do single leg work and did box squats… boooom! Thinking on my feet and changing things up!!

Love where this convo ended up. I think it’s really important to put the time into programming your workouts. You only have to do it once every 4-6 weeks. Then leave a day or two where you freestyle it with bodyweight or cardio to keep it interesting. For example I strength train heavy 3 days per week (MWF usually). I do conditioning/freestyle workouts or go for a run on Tues/Sat. Usually on Thurs/Sun I do some type of active rest like a long walk with the stroller or a run.

Amanda.. your philosophy sounds very similar to mine.. i weight train heavy 3 times a week (PLANNED) and i have a free style weight training day Saturday

I do cardio 4 days a week ( 1 day stead state and 3 days hiit) i change up my hiit and cardio to make it fun and not so regimented!

I use to take spin classes and stoped because i hated that it was so Strict.. i hated people telling me what to do and knowing i HAD to be there a certain time to get a bike and sign up.. it was to regimented.. i do my own thing now and change it up when i want
