Hey, y’all! Some of us weightlifting nuts are running a fundraiser for MuscleDog contributors Donny Shankle and Jon North and the rest of the 2010 Pan Am Weightlifting Team (including fellow Cal Strength teammate Caleb Ward).

All contributors will be recognized on the donation webpage and on the facebook page we’ve created for the fundraiser. If any of you represent a company, we would also be more than happy to feature your website and logo.

Feel free to e-mail me at r_crass@yahoo.com for more details.

To make a tax-deductible donation, go to http://womag1.com/Donate/

Thank you!

Training full-time like those guys do makes working full-time very difficult. All donations (minus the small paypal fee) will go straight to the athletes to help off-set the costs of their taking time off of work to compete at Pan Ams. Many of the 15 Pan Am team members live paycheck to paycheck to make ends meet, because so much of their time is spent in the gym, in the recovery center, etc, and taking a week off of work is a significant financial blow.

Even those few team members who have paid leave use up that leave throughout the year by going to various competitions, like Nationals, the American Open, and the Arnold Expo, among others. Unlike athletes in “mainstream” sports, weightlifters do not earn money for competing. In fact, quite the opposite is true. Weightlifters have to pay their own way to domestic competitions, including airfare, hotel and rental car fees, and even a competition entry fee.

Our mission is to help off-set the 100s of dollars of expenses these athletes voluntarily incur every year just to compete in the sport they love so dearly.

Thanks, Rachel!  Yep, I can vouch that Olympic Weightlifting is a very expensive hobby!  Donny, Jon, and Caleb have definitely earned our support.

-Online. To make a tax-deductible donation, go to http://womag1.com/Donate/

“Can you give some information about this event?”

-See above post for info. There’s not much else to say. We’re
accepting on-line, tax-deductible donations, and we’ll feature donors and/or
their companies on the donation page (http://womag1.com/Donate/) and on our facebook page (http://www.facebook.com/home.php?#!/pages/Support-USA-Weightliftings-2010-Pan-Am-Team-

).
Next year, we will have merchandise for e-sale, but it’s a bit too close to the
wire to start anything like that for this year. Our goal is to raise $3,000,
which breaks down to $200 per athlete. Donations are a bit slow in coming, but
they are starting to trickle in. Every little bit helps!

I’ve gotten a couple e-mails from MuscleDog members saying that this is a really good idea, but as of yet, no one has contributed. C’mon, people! We’ve raised about $200 so far, which is great but doesn’t break down to very much when you consider we’re splitting it 15 ways. Every little bit counts.
