A muscledog member posted a comment in his blog that he thinks the world would be a better place is everyone was a bodybuilder..

I just wanted to get your opinion on this.. Here is mine!!!!!

I don’t think the world would be a better place if everyone was a bodybuilder…

I actually find it refreshing to go out with some friends that are not involved in fitness or bodybuilding AT ALL…
When I go out for dinner on the weekends, I want to unwind, enjoy a glass of wine, a delicious meal, and have great conversations that have nothing to do with fitness, dieting, or training…

I like to have a “girl’s night, date night, or couples night out” and talk about other hobbies, funny jokes, and conversations out side of the gym…
It’s my one day that I can just relax and not think about the gym. Even though I love my lifestyle and wouldn’t change anything about it, I just need a mental break from it.

I find that when I hang out with my fitness/gym friends all they talk about is diet diet diet training, diet supplements ahhhhhhhhhhh.. I just want to say “shut up” I don’t want to hear about your diet or how upset you are for cheating more then once this week.. I have a life outside  the gym…

That is why I love my non fitness friends!!!!!!!!!! =)

However, I love having my gym/fitness friends in my life as well… We share a mutual understanding about our lifestyle choices.  They won’t judge me if I pack a cooler to work everyday, or if I rather go to the gym during the week then meet up for drinks..  They understand why I eat 6 meals a day, and why I dedicate hours of my week to cook my food rather then eat out..

We share a common interest and talk about the newest supplements, the best workout routines, tips on gaining muscle or losing weight, the new fad diet or workout routine….

I love having a balance in my life. GYM FRIENDS & NON GYM FRIENDS!!!!!!! I love you all

i wouldn’t say bodybuilders but the majority of my friends are athletes. between my track days in high school and at USC, and my current work coaching and lifting i would say that most are. since this is my passion i don’t quite mind it and we don’t have a hard time differentiating between work and play so it works, but i see what you are saying about getting different perspectives and interests in your life.

NO But most are powerlifters ;-). No really I have to agree my wife would go nut if the only friends I had were meat heads. People are people I can enjoy the company of just about anyone.
Thanks

Gotta admit that most of my friends are either trainers or clients, but I spend most of my free time with my bf or my family if I get the chance. I’ve kinda made fitness my life so I don’t mind talking about it all the time…

yeah, gotta admit i hang out with mostly my team members. having moved around a lot for college and now as a professional lifter i haven’t made a whole lot of friends that aren’t involved in some sort of lifting. but i compete with a bunch of great guys so can’t really complain ;o).

Wow. I sparked a topic.  I should make clear what I define as a bodybuilder.  I don’t mean those that compete, but thoae that are actually living a lifestyle that is health oriented.  Regardless of your goal in fitness it involves building your body to doing what you want it to do.
That being said, I can understand why non fitness people are good for balance in one’s life.  In my own case, I have seen so many people close to me that didn’t live the healthy lifestyle and regret it that I feel that the world would be better.
