How big a deal is drinking water for burning fat?

How hard is it to take advantage of, and is it something that can be done without a great deal of hassle? Does this mean people have to avoid eating half the day or never have coffee or a cigarette again? It would be interesting to see if there is a dose-response curve that would plot maximal, safe, effective.
