Thought this was interesting….i’ve always thought there was so much lacking protein-wise in a meatless diet.

Vegan bodybuilder Giacomo Marchese talks about the false hype about protein, where he gets his plant-based protein, and his forthcoming documentary, Vegan Brothers in Iron.

Here’s a little excerpt from Giacomo’s blog:

“Whether you are a Vegan or a Raw Foodist…you will get your fill of protein. If you’re a bodybuilder and you indulge in the theory of excessively high protein intake and caloric deficit, you can do it. It’s actually far more efficient, and healthier as vegan foods have zero cholesterol, for you to use vegan protein powders because many of these vegan sources are micronutrient powerhouses. Spirulina and Chlorella, for example, are superfoods. One serving of either equates to 35 servings of vegetables in regards to vitamin and mineral content. Even small amounts will benefit you immensely!”

Vegetables are incomplete proteins…

It is extremely difficult to build muscle and maintain lean muscle mass with a vegan diet unless you are genetically gifted and truly committed to your diet…

I am not saying it’s impossible, clearly it has been done with true success but not by many… If your goal is to build muscle GOOD LUCK!! You will need it…

Other then protein powder you have to eat tons of beans, and carb filled products which make it difficult to maintain low body fat…

If you are not doing it for the sake of saving animals and your goal is to build muscle with low body fat  i think its stupid .. just saying

I agree with him that you can successfully get enough protein in a vegan diet, but what is stopping meat eaters from eating spirulina and chlorella? Just because vegans eat them doesn’t mean that they are vegan specific…
