How do you test to see if your digestions system is working properly?

Are there any specific tests you can take?

What are some signs and symptoms for determining digestive health?

i’m sure there are but i would first take a look at things like how regularly you have bowel movements, how bad your sh!t stinks, how gassy you are, whether or not you have Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS, a pretty good indication of problems), etc.

if you are getting enough fiber and doing the things recommended in the Gut Health articles you should be fine.

I think Pete is trying to say that many of those problems arise from bacterial deficiencies, etc, so if you are experiencing those symptoms that is a good indication that you have a problem. ^_^

There are tests you can do, for example if you go to your doctors and want to get tested they will probably take a stool sample. You can test for “leaky gut” by taking an “intestine permeability test”, and there are a host of other similar lab tests that you can do.

It seems like body builders, athletes, figure competitors and fitness enthusiast suffer most from digestion issues.

I would think this group of people would be the healthiest of all.  They are most conscious about their diet, fiber and water intake… it doesn’t make any sense

What do you think it comes from? Supplements, eating to clean, eating 6 meals a day ect??????/

Yogurt and kefir have made a huge improvement in my health and well being. Its really improved my bowel movement etc.

The other thing that has made me feel better is to get a good quality protien powder.

what protein do you buy and how many scoops a day do you consume.

As long as you do not consume more than 30 grams per meal, you will be fine.  More than that can have very bad consequences.  This used to really inhibit me when eating briskit, till I figured out that the folks who created this and the other urban legends surrounding protein intake had not specified how much time must elapse between “meals”.  So now, I just get up from the table a couple of times during supper.  I might grab something more to drink, wipe my hands, even use the bathroom.  When I sit back down, viola, new meal and I can have another serving of protein.
So remember, when dealing with urban legends, there is always a way around them if you are creative.

I thought repeated use of the term “urban legend” would give away the fact that I was being a bit sarcastic…

Yep ….you are right… I definitely had a blonde moment there….

I guess I missed that part “urban legend” because you do have many bizarre theories

Its sad to say but some people actually believe your body can digest food that quickly..

SORRY!

However… it is true that protein digests faster then carbs right??

I know that fat slows down the digestive process, that is why many people like to eat healthy fats before bed to slow down digestion and decease catabolism…

(Catabolism: The metabolic breakdown of complex molecules into simpler ones, often resulting in a release of energy)
