Basic Mechanics of Fat Loss on a Keto Diet
 
The object of a keto diet is to force your body to get into and stay in a glycogen deprived state and maintain a mild state of ketosis (burning fats for energy). In order to achieve this you need to increase the fat intake and restrict the carbs to a minimum.

It seesm like this would not be the best diet for getting strong.  right?  have you tried this diet yet?  what do you think about this diet?  when are you comign out to see us llulko!!  I miss you and I have never met you….. :)    !!

well the goal of the keto diet is cutting, so it’s not necessaily ideal for guys like you trying to maintain or gain weight, although it can certainly be tweaked to serve that purpose. it’s essentially a low carb diet with a really high fat intake, and fats are actually a better energy source than carbs. or rather they are utilized more efficiently by your body than carbs and ironically don’t result in as much fat storage.
it’s actually not all that different than your previous arguments regarding how good bacon and sausage is for you. taking your typical breakfast example, a keto diet would say bring on the bacon and sausage but leave out the english muffins.

I think it’s harder to gain muscle mass on the Keto diet however once your body adapts to ketosis your body utilizes fat for energy. Pete is right, fats are a better source of energy than carbs (keep in mind this is not true for everyone)..  
 
 
You should try to experiment with this diet once you are in your off season.  Obviously talk to Glenn first, (i am sure he is against it) but it is possible to develop more strength gains being in ketosis…
 
It is a hard transition, the first couple of weeks you may feel week and lethargic however the out come may be worth it. 
 
I am considering this diet however I would like to try carb cycling first.  I wanted to wait till the summer was over so i could considerate more on my diet and experiment with it…

llulko Lets get married!  lol jk……well kinda.  haha   Get your ass down here!  Its game time.  I will make you an Olympic weightlifting champion, and you can make me look good for the ladies!    You can come down and be my new weightlifting coach, save me from the Pendlay!!  lol  on our first date we can go to Cosco and eat samples, and on our second date we can go to hooters with the team and have a wing eating comp!   on our third date we can run away to vegas and get married, have 10 great kids that are star athletes, and start them lifting at the age of 2!  all ten will go to the olympics!   2012

I will definitely save you from that crazy Pendlay guy… I think I know how to put him in his place.  [/size]He won’t make fun of your eating habits again!!!!
 
I don’t now about 10 kids (maybe 2-3) but they will definitely be good looking Olympic champions with a killer appetite and personality!! 
 
I will bring a bunch of fish oil for you as a welcome present and maybe a gift certificate to Chipotle Mexican Grill.  I will also be there to support you while you have an eating contest with Donny!!!
