No bread burgers
whenever i eat at in-n-out, i order what is called “protein style”, where they basically hold the bun and wrap the burger in lettuce instead.
we actually posted an article a couple years ago about a burger recipe that didn’t have a bun and was wrapped in butterhead leaf lettuce. if you are trying to watch your carb intake, this is an easy way to allow you to still enjoy your favorite burger and not have to worry about the carbs in the bread. good luck trying to get that at any other fast food joint, but it is easy when you are making your burger at home!

=( i don’t like mushrooms, otherwise maybe those would look appetizing. i’m sure there are plenty of people out there that would really go for that but it’s not my cup of tea. mushrooms freak me out a little.
now THIS is what i’m talkin about:

So it’s like a chicken sandwich with eggplant instead of bread? That sounds funny! I can’t say I ever thought about doing that but it sounds like it could be interesting. I’m not a huge fan of eggplant but I’d probably give it a try. Don’t your hands get all messy? Why not just eat it with a knife and fork? lol ^_^
Pete. That lettuce wrap burger looks awesome!! BUT not as flavorful as Sasha’s!
I LOVE mushrooms…
How can you not like them??? Get over your fears! You are missing out!
Omg! The options! http://www.mensfitness.com/nutrition/abs-health/types-mushrooms
Sasha! I love adding mushrooms to burgers and the eggplant sounds fantastic!
It sounds yummy but definitely messy… that calls for a knife and fork!
I love adding reduced or fat free Swiss cheese and roasted peppers to that dish! sooo yummy and guilt free!
Thanks for sharing! Now i am craving a yummy burger! I am a big fan of turkey burgers…
I use lean ground turkey
Diced red pepper, celery, zucchini, and carrots
I add mustard, ketchup, 1-2 tbsp flax seed, sea salt pepper, basil, thyme rosemary!!
I cook it in a cast iron skillet until each side is browned then cook it in the oven on 350 for another 35 minutes
BAM!

eeeewwww, it’s FUNGUS! it’s gross. i’ll eat mushrooms on a combination pizza or things like that where i didn’t make it and am too lazy to pick them out, but i don’t use them when i cook.
and yes, the protein-style in-n-out burger, animal style, is the way to go. you get plenty of carbs from the fries, so it’s really the best way to keep the calories at in-n-out managable and not have to worry about them sticking to your butt, belly or thighs!

i believe it’s because they are made with much better ingredients than the burgers at other fast food joints. the menu is simple and the ingredients are more fresh than you’ll find at any other place. for heaven’s sake, you can see them cutting the potatoes to make the french fries you are about to eat, 5 minutes before you eat them! there are restaurants with better tasting burgers, but for the price and speed of service, i’d take in-n-out over any other fast food burger place
