Dr. Art De Vany, a professor of economics and mathematical behavioral sciences at UC Irvine uses this photo as a great example of what different types of training can do to your body.

this is a set of identical twins, meaning they have the exact same genome and genetics, but the two have trained with different sports. the twin on the left is a distance runner, while the twin on the right is a sprinter/thrower. obviously they have very different body types and the twin on the right has a lot more muscle.

think about this when you are desinging your next training regimen, and make sure that the training you are doing will be properly suited for obtaining your fitness goals and desired body type.

After looking at that, I wanna be a sprinter/thrower instead of a distance runner.  Waddya bet the dude on the right gets more chicks?

And, on second look, I think the distance runner is actually losing his hair faster than the sprinter/thrower.  Is there any better proof of the superiority of strength training?  I know I dont want to lose my hair any sooner than I  have to.  At the least, not until I am safely married again.

Now let’s all go throw…  Spitz, are you coming?

Wow, the difference is amazing.  I wonder what their diets were like as well…

Its funny, some women I see who run every day and don’t lift look phenomenal (lean with a decent amount of muscle) however other women (majority) who only run look like crap… I guess it has a lot to do with genetics, body type and diet.

I used to run ALOT and lost a shi* load of muscle and fat.  I completely changed my body type, it was CRAZY!!

I went from a size 5 to a size zero (not a good look of me lol)… However the difference was amazing… My entire body frame and structure changed.  I would say i went from a Mesomorph to an endomorph within 6-8 months.. It’s really fascinating what strength training can do for you.

I stopped running as much, increased my carbs, started lifting heavy and changed from steady state to HIIT. Now I have more muscle then ever within a years time..
Your body is like a big experiment…

Fitness/nutrition is all about science and research; it’s really amazing how you can manipulate the way your body looks

I’m there Coach. We can take turns tossing the marathon runner like a log, Celtic Games style.

And you’re right, it looks like the marathon runner’s comb-over is a little sickly compared to the throwers. I wonder if that’s just bad photo prep or if there is something going on there physiologically. Interesting observation.

LOL, Celtic Games marathon runner tossing… classic.

and Glenn you’re right, i bet the guy on the right gets far more play than the guy on the left, who kinda reminds me of the brother from Frasier that they nicknamed “Peach Fuzz”.

I was thinking about this picture today and I was wondering why is it that athletes are bigger now than in the past?    Does half to do with diet?  Is it training?  technology?  Is it hfcs?  lol
