How much longer do you think it’ll take for you to get up to 166kg? What’s a realistic jump in weight at the rate that you train at?

well if I make my first two attempts in the snatch then coach will put 166kg on the bar for my third, so making all my attempts is very important, I cant only look at 166kg, I have to stay focused on hitting in the high 50’s and low 60’s to set me up for the American record.

I meant how many kilos do you usually jump in a week’s training? Have you ever hit 166 in practice/unofficially?

Nope I have never made 166 in training.  My best snatch is 160kg in comp.  My best training snatch is 155kg.  My jumps vary from two or three kilos to five or more if we are going big on the last attempt and I am trying a record or to win.  The biggest jump I have seen is a fifteen kilos jump!

That is really interesting. Do you always warm up the exact same way as well? I saw your 161kg snatch as well as your 160kg snatch at nationals, great work!

I woul d say that the reason most people reak records is because of the consistancy of training. I no when I squatted my 302 I was training 5 to 6 times a day, this was very hard because I had to stay so mentally consisitant and focused on what I had to do. I felt like a robot swuatting everyday and being in the gym all the time. However, I talked to alot of good weightlifters in my day and they all said the same thing, you must feel like the gym everytime you walk in the gym, or else yout not thier enough. This was great advice to me because sometiimes when I though I may be overtraining I was just in fact getting into shape to make this big lift. When hitting this lift everything I ahd worked hard for and all those days and hours in the gym made sense. If I had not trained hard all those days and put in all those hours feeling like a robot I would not have learned how to control my emotions and have the strength to lift that wieght. So I have alot of respect for jon north when he nears clsoer and closer to that american record, because I know what it takes to do that type of feat.
