I thought I read somewhere that bicycles (where you touch your elbows to your knees) work the highest percentage of muscles, and they certainly make me feel the burn. I don’t have a 6 pack or anything, but I like those.

I like the easy ones like hanging leg raises (in the chair stand thingy) and planks. I don’t really do a ton of ab work… ^_^

We have a ton of complexes that we put the kids through at the gym to build up core, and that includes the lower back. Window wipers, V-ups, situps, back extensions, med ball situps, hanging leg raises, ab rollouts… the list goes on and on and on.

Hear is a list of the best core work you can do to not only get strong but look good as well!
snatch
clean&jerk
back squat/front squat
back extensions, ouch!  coach has us do that and they are killer!
I always have the kids at cal strength finish with some med ball sit ups
med ball side to sides
walking lunges
sometimes I will get a big group together and do high mediume lows!!!!  this is where everyone lays on there back and does what I say with only there legs and feet.  they have to put the feet in ther air where I tell them to and hold it tell I give them there next direction,  lol love this.   you can make up any little funny thing you want them to do, becuase when there feet are in the air it dosn’t matter what they are doing its hard!!!!
When I kid has a very rounded and weak back I love them to do pendlay rows, and bent over flys, and a crap load of them, more the better for those kids.    in the end everything you do in the gym is pretty much core related, dont you think?

Personally I am a fan of anything lopsided if you want to develope functional ab strength…
The death march will make you wicked sore in the abs the first few times you really push yourself on it.  Suitcase deadlifts are the same.  Offset stance good mornings, much the same.

Hahah  … that’s awesome!! and sounds like fun…

I am sure the kids are hating you for it but in reality its fun and better to do as a group!! They thrive off each others energy…

I used to take a hard core boxing/boot camp class were the instructor was super intense and crazy… If one person was not able to complete a push up or a sit up the whole class would suffer and have to do ten more… it was brutal!!!

Its more for strengthing your abs. To get the bodybuilder abs you have to do cardio and diet and all that extra stuff

my question was: does dead lifts and sqauts give you the thicker abs look?? or shoudl body builders focus on isometrick work, and more direct work?

Lopsided work is more for the transverse abdominals and the obliques.  Its for stability and function, although I have a hard time imagining it would hurt form…
