hey guys, is it ok to bench every other day, or do i need more rest in between?

Blake, it won’t kill you but i wouldn’t recommend it for a long period of time. if you want to really pump your chest up i would probably tell you to try some variation of press like incline or decline, or even mix in dips. every other day would probably be fine, but you will miss out on developing all 3 parts of your pecs if you only do flat bench.

Agree spitz! Blake we only train chest every third day and alternate exercises every week. On light day we may do high on the necks and reverse grip flat press one week then Rocker press or belly press  the next. The next two weeks on light day will be primarily dbells or floor work think of a variationits probably done. One our heavy day Rack stall press, lightenings, chains, board press, weight releaseror band press are typical but keeping the options open has been essiential to keep things rolling. I cant tell you how much going to a third day routine has helped especially with strength gains the chest when worked hard and fast needs time to repair.

these guys are right. you have to remember that your body works to adapt to whatever you are doing to reduce the stress, but this works both ways.

if you bench press every other day, you will certainly build those muscles up pretty quickly, but at the same time once your body has gotten used to lifting every other day it will reach an equilibrium and stop growing. this is where the whole “keep the body guessing” saying comes from. i would recommend mixing it up a little more than every other day, but for a short period of time it wouldn;t hurt.

another thing you might want to think about doing if you are trying to build size or strength in your chest, is to simply do 100 pushups every day. you don’t have to do them all at once, you can break them up into sets at various points throughout the day (i.e. 10 in the morning after you wake up, 10 more after breakfast, 10 before bed, etc etc), but make sure you do at least 100 every single day. you’d be surprised at the results you can get with this simple plan.
