If you dead lift, and squat is it still necessary to do specific lower back supplemental work like reverse hyper extensions, super mans ect???

Lower Back and Core Training
there are a lot of lifters out there who will say that you don’t have to do additional core work if you do a lot of squatting and deadlifting, but that is just like saying you don’t have to do anything else for your arms if you do some pull-ups and some benching. squats and deadlifts do activate your core and provide plenty of work, and since your abdominals, obliques and lower back work together to stabilize your core you are certainly getting a good workout, but if you are really looking to build a strong core you need to do additional work to focus primarily on those muscles.
the great thing about squats and deadlifts and other full body exercises is that they are FULL BODY exercises. they require just about every muscle you have to get the job done, and they make all of your muscle systems work together to accomplish one goal. you could do worse than just focusing on full body exercises to train everything. but if you are serious about building a strong core you need to work it separately just like any other muscles.

Its definitley important to train the torso in addition to deadlifting and other pulling movements etc.
The best way to strengthen the erectors is with a back extension in which the spine is extended and then flexed while being supported on a GHR pad.

Some people get huge quads from squatting. Some people get a huge butt. Some people get balanced development. I think that there are a lot of people who after squatting and deadlifting big numbers have very strong lower backs and a very strong core. There are others that dont, and need to do extra work. I dont think a bit of extra core work hurts anyone, but there are definately some people who need it much more than others.
Two traits of those who often need extra work are those with abnormally long torsos, and those who tend to be very explosive and “bouncy” in their regular strength work. Both types of people tend to NOT develope all the core strength they need through regular methods, and need extra work. If you want to look at a prototype of the kind of guy who would not ever need to do abs or extra lower back work, look at Blagoev.

Jon, check my reply above. Your structure makes it easy for you to keep your back straight on the competitive lifts. You have the typical bodytype for a person to not need to do extra lower back or ab work. Plus, your back is not “weak”. Have you felt your spinal erecors lately??? If not, let me tell you, they are like a couple of pythons.
Its not your back that is weak. Its your legs and hips. Yes, you are explosive and fast. But you need some more horsepower. If you want american records as bad as you say you do, commit to doing what is neccessary to putting 20-30kg onto your squat. cause with another 30kg on your squat, there is no doubt in my mind that you would be the greatest 94kg lifter in American history.
The question is, are you gonna keep cutting your squat workouts short and getting out of the full amount of work I want you to do, or are you gonna embrace it and do what is neccessary to be the lifter that you can be?
