hey lou, i don’t actually know anyone who has used it and haven’t personally tried it, although i have heard great things about it throughout the industry.

for those of you who don’t know what it is, it is a regimen deisgned by Charles Staley, a renowned trainer/coach and writer throughout the fitness industry. EDT stands for Escalating Density Training. the general idea behind the routine is to fit in as much overall work as possible into the given amount of time, usually two grouped sessions performed under an hour total time, with a rest period in between. one thing Staley emphasizes is to simplify things as much as possible to cut down on distractions. for the most part he throws sets, reps and rest intervals out the window and relies on alternating exercises to maximize the amount of work.

it’s an intense program and people usually see huge gains on it. a lot of people will use it specifically to jack up their arms, but you can definitely make an intense full body split using this regimen. since it’s so intense i would reccomend that you take steps to ensure proper recovery.

i’d give it a try if you haven’t, especially if you are looking for some quick gains in muscle mass.

a buddy of mine did the arms workout from Staley’s ebook and put some pretty impressive mass on. he said it was intense as hell since you have to try to beat your last workout, hence the “escalating” part of the name. after seeing what he went through i’ve been tempted to try it but never got around to it.

I would love to see an example of this workout.  My whole body workouts seem very similar to this concept…

I usually super set 2-3 exercise in a circuit.

 For example:

-I would superset pull ups with front squats and rest 30-45 seconds and repeat..

-Then I would superset RDL with shoulder press ect.

Is this the same concept???

llulko, yeah that’s essentially the concept. if you follow the regimen exactly you do those 4 exercises for 20 minutes, take a 5-10 minute break, then choose another 4 exercises to superset in another 20 minute session.

the goal is to get as much work as possible done, so usually you start higher reps but eventually you want to increase the weight. every workout you try to beat the numbers from the last workout, be it reps or weight.

definitely keep us posted biglou!

Yes, there is a DVD that explains how EDT works but is kind of confussing. Coach Staley goes thru a couple of workouts explaining how everything works and giving you some points about how EDTworks. But let me tell you something if you want to know a little bit more about EDT google edt go to the forums and if you like what you read go to your closer bookstore and buy the book is about $60 dollars cheaper you get a better explanation about the method, about the PR zones(Personal Best), lots of workout ideas, how to pair the exercises, etc. Igave the book a 10,but only a 4 or 5 tothe DVD. IF YOU HAVE THE YOU DON’T REALLY NEED TO SPEND OVER $70 DOLLARS FOR THE DVD.

I have not. the workouts are very challenging, but Icould not train for more than 2 weeks in a row due to been working double shift for the last 5 weeks. I just feel exhausted only from my regular job, and throwing the workouts in its was a killer. I have 3 more weeks on my nasty schedule, after that i’ll return to my regular working shift with enough time totrain and more time for recoup.
