A pretty basic method to test for muscle weakness/tightness/imbalances is to do your basic stretches, and see if your muscles feel tight when you reach the furthest parts of the stretching. This is usually a pretty good indicator that you need to do more stretching or that you have an imbalance that is making that area tight and preventing you from having full range of motion.

bad posture is a great indicator of tight or weak muscles, especially with muscles like your hip flexors. if you have a job that requires you to sit for long periods of time it’s quite likely that you have tight hamstrings and hip flexors due to being in a sitting position all day.

+1 on this, all very true.  Also, when one is involved in an athletic pursuit,  whether is is shot putting, olympic lifting, powerlifting, football, or anything else. its fairly easy to see any weakpoint in strength or flexibility by simply watching them train and watching them do the various movements.  Its only hard to spot these things when people stop using the body as a whole unit and start isolating.  Then we have to resort to special tests.

Thanks guys! These are all great suggestions.

What about do a squat test to see were your hips knees, shoulders, lower back and feet angle?? I heard that this is a great test to check for imbalances?

Are there any other test that could indicate particular imbalances other then stretching tight muscles?
