Who here believes that the timing of when you take your protein drink matters? I am assuming most people will say within an hour of yoiur workout.

But do you think there is a big difference in if you take it immediately post workout or wiait an hour? Thoughts? Has anyone experimented with this?

Protein immediately after your workout helps with recovery. Im not sure how much of an impact it makes. Im sure it depends on the person but i kno it makes a difference.

Rob,

I used to tihnk that same thing. However, for a 3 month period I took protein IMMEDIATELY after my workout. Then, for the next 3 months I took it an hour after my workout. I literally felt zero difference in my ability to recover from the workout. I felt the exact same. I know it could be different with others but I just thought that was extremely interesting. Because people always talk about that “window” of opportunity being right after your workout. I mean generally if you drink it right after you will be able to consume more calories the rest of the day, which may aid in recovery. I just never saw a difference. So I was just curious if anyone else had noticed anything.

If you lift from 3-5pm, drink a shake at 5pm, you’re going to feel like eating at probably 6pm, then again at probalby 9pm before bed. However, if you train from 3-5pm, don’t drink your shake til 6pm, you pry wont feel like eating til 8. Then you pry wonbt eat again before you go to bed. YOu’re basically losing an hour out of the day to eat!

I know it probably also depends on the type of protein that everyone is taking post workout as well. If you take whey it’ll easily digest in an hour or two. But, if you take casein it’ll obviously take much longer. Obviously that is why whey is such a necessity immediately following workouts. Who knows though, I have met plenty of jacked up dudes who have never taken a protein shake in their life!

haha true! That is a very good assumption. I know not everyone on here is looking to gain weight/bulk up. But, I do know it can play a significant role in how you feel as well (When you eat).

I think it depends on the person, me personally i dont feel a difference if i take it 1min or 1 hour after a workout, but i like to drink it immediately, BUT however i do feel a difference taking Hydrolyzed whey over Protein blends.

i feel stronger actually, i have heard multiple things, some say blends are better because they hit super quick, fast, medium, and slow. some say Hydro’s are better as they get into the muscles in about 5min! my bicep has grown as well *not saying this is from just the supplement it very well could also be my own hard work* from 14in to 16in in two months and YES i am ALL natural lol. also keep in mind i started eating more as well so more calories may have lead to growth. but i have noticed since taking hydrolyzed my preacher curl went from a 70-80lbs x5 on a good day to a 90-100lbs x5 on a good day. all in all i feel stronger with Hydrolyzed, although the blends by far taste superior, and also they make me feel much fuller, i still reallllllllllllly love the Musclefeast hydrolyzed whey especially. i may try isolate next, but i doubt their will be a huge difference as isolate is slower than Hydrolyzed. Also i forgot to add with blends they do make you feel fuller but if you dis-like bloating your best bet may be hydrolyzed as i said before it still makes you feel empty, so if you take your shake halfway through a workout id say hydrolyzed so your not all puffy.

I didn’t now hydrolyzed absorbs faster then isolate??

I agree with you… most blends taste better for sure!! Especially in shakes, oatmeal, pancakes and puddings.

I really liked optimums chocolate hydrolyzed protein so maybe i will get it next time.

If you notice bloating with wheys or blends you should look for proteins which have aminogen in it.  Aminogen aids in protein absorptions, digestions and prevents bloating and gas…

Do you really think your protein helped you increase size and strength??

That is nuts… I am a little skeptical about that claim but we will see!!!

I would hate to feel full and bloated while training so a good protein that prevents that would be very important…

Why do you take it while working out… what about pre and post nutrition?

Is fullness an issue for you? There is not a lot of evidence which claims advantages of taking protein during your workout?

What are your thoughts?

Like i said i cant whole heartedly say it did, like i said it may be because i was taking in more calories, but i def. felt a difference between Blend vs Hydro

haha i personally dont take it in the middle of my workout, i see many do though, why? idk…. i always take it directly post, and pre workout i just eat whole food.
“Is fullness an issue for you? There is not a lot of evidence which claims advantages of taking protein during your workout?
HECK NO! lol i used to be fat so im always hungry haha, i personally stick with BCAA’s during my workout.

What do you think the faster absorbtion makes a difference? I believe the Muscles need protein As fast as possible, your muscles after a workout are “Dehydrated” in terms… They arnt litterally, but they are so beaten and broken down they need repaired as soon as possible, the reason i used “Dehydrated” is because think of yourself running in a dessert, in 100*+ weather, and you havent drank anything for hours…you are “Beaten and broken down” so your body will then pull all the water it can from you to try and rehydrate, With the muscles if their is no protein immediately the body will try and make protein, by make i mean go after the best source their is for protein in your body….YOUR MUSCLES! So then the workout becomes counter-productive. In my opinion it has helped me, many bodies are different. so it may not be as crucial to others.

What does your diet look like? how did you lose all your weight?
My diet is mostly Protein and GOOD fats, Meal 1- 30g Carbs, 35g protein, 15g Fat…(Post Workout MuscleFeast Hydrolyzed Whey 32g Protein) Meal 2- 30g Carbs, 35g protein, 15g Fat. Meal 3- 15g Carbs, 35g protein, 15g Fat…Meal 4- 15g Carbs, 35g protein, 15g Fat… Meal 5- 14g Protein, 0g carbs, 5g fat….Meal 6 (pre bed)- 21g protein, *0g carbs (If im having plain yogurt with natural PB their may be a small trace of carbs) 10g Fat…. Basically i knew i couldnt let myself get bigger at the time i was 295Lbs and i was getting the rough side of life…Girls turning me down, and life was going down. I woke up and KNEW i needed to turn everything around and from that day on i NEVER looked back :) I trained my mind before my body. i always say to people “Its all about training the mind first, then the body and all will flow evenly” “Its like a Bridge with no river underneath, that bridge wont help you cross water thats not their”

There is no proof to this theory that you HAVE to take in protein/carbs RIGHT after your workout. It makes sense but studies have not proven that it is more beneficial then taking protein/carbs 1-2 hours after your workout…
