Researchers have now demonstrated that Green Tea extracts can reduce abdominal fat!

In this study, 107 test subjects where supplemented with either green tea extract (625 mg catechins + 39 mg caffeine) or a placebo for 12 weeks. During this time, they controlled their diet and exercised and in the end, there was no difference between groups in relation to changes in fat mass.

However, fat loss in the abdominals was 3.3% lower in the green tea group!

This helps support another study done at the University of Birmingham which showed that green tea increased fat burning by almost 20%, increased the proportion of fat burned for energy and improved insulin function! Previous research also showed that green tea helps fight brain damage, and displays anti-aging properties.

Guidelines For Buying A Green Tea Supplement

•Make sure you buy your green tea supplement from a quality company and believe it or not, there have been well known supplement companies selling diet pills without the dose of EGCG needed to burn fat! If you’re unsure, email or call the supplement company and ask for a lab assay on their product. If they fail to provide this, take your business elsewhere!

•Look for one that gives you at least 90 mg of the main active ingredient, EGCG (epigallocatechin gallate) per serving. This is the exact amount of used in the initial studies but some research shows that larger dosages may be even more effective.

If you are trying to reduce the amount of belly fat to see your six pack, no amount of green tea is going to help to any significant degree.  It’s all about reducing your total bodyfat… the subcutaneous fat (fat stored under the skin) and visceral fat (belly fat) through diet and exercise.

Since you never really know exactly what is in them, or if they are even extracting all the necessary compounds, I usually recommend that you go with the real thing instead of going for extracts. Adding a few cups of green tea to your diet isn’t really all that difficult but will give you some great benefits. You can use it instead of your morning/afternoon coffee or drink it instead of a couple of your glasses of water throughout the day.

You are right, green tea will not make substantial differences, however it is a great tool especially for people that are already lean.

When you reach low body fat it is harder to lose those last stubborn pounds.  Green tea supplementation could be a great aid to help shed those last few pounds.

Also, green tea is a much better alternative then sodas and sugar filled drinks!  You could find different flavors of green tea, I have seen peach, mango, pomegranate green teas which are very satisfying in taste…

Thought this was interesting…are there any other tea blends out there that anyone knows of?

Green, Black Tea Blend Provides Synergistic Antioxidant Action

Source: Nutritional Outlook

Kemin Health (Des Moines, IA) has launched Enlivitea, a proprietary blend of green and black tea formulated for high antioxidant value.

The company ensures that the tea extracts in Enlivitea provide high concentrations of specific antioxidants and work synergistically to provide antioxidant health benefits.

“After a thorough review of the science behind both green and black tea, our scientists determined that blending certain extracts from select green and black tea varieties would provide important antioxidant protection superior to the antioxidant benefits offered by green and black teas alone,” says Mike Ceddia, vice president of research and development.

This is a very interesting read… I have done some research previously on Green Tea myself. I know a lot of other countries (China especially) really swear by this stuff.

Very interesting. I drink green tea every day! I read a lot of good things about it. It’s the best antioxydant with coffee.
