If you take creatine for two months and you are feeling very strong, but then you get off of it a week before a meet, is that bad, or is it still in your system and your in the clear???

I am not completely sure about how long it takes levels ro recede to normal, but I doubt it takes that long. I bet Pete or Matt would know the answer to this.
great question Jon.
we actually naturally create creatine in the kidneys and liver from various amino acids that you get from your diet, and almost all creatine is stored in your muscles where it can be used to replenish your ATP stores and create energy. since creatine is created using amino acids, you make it by eating a high protein diet, not from veggies or carbs.
you supplement with creatine to build up and maximize the amount stored in your muscles, which is tough to do only through food because we don’t create very much natrually. when you supplement, you do what’s called a loading phase where you take super high doses for the first few days, normally close to 10 times the amount you actually need (any excess is excreted), then a maintenance period follows where you only take a few grams a day to keep your levels up. you need to do this because creatine is naturally converted to a useless molecule called creatinine and your stores slowly dwindle unless replenished.
there is usually what’s called a “wash out” period when you get off supplemental creatine, which normally takes about a month. i don’t think a week would be long enough to completely flush your system, so you wouldn’t be “in the clear”, but i’m not sure why you would want to be if you are seeing good strength gains, since creatine isn’t illegal as far as i know.
the other complicating factor might be that you eat a ton of meat so you are probably naturally creating more creatine than a normal person, but again it varies from person to person so i don’t know for sure.
why are you trying to get clear of creatine?

ah, that makes sense. your levels of stored creatine will definitely drop, and you might see a little dropoff but some of that can be offset by eating a lot of meat and taking BCAAs since you will naturally make some creatine from the amino acids.
if you’re really worried i would make sure to get some more creatine by tonight.

yeah, undoubtedly it would be way too expensive, not to mention painful, to eat enough meat to get the amounts of creatine you get in even one scoop of a supplement.
it looked like you were plenty strong yesterday at the competition, don’t know if it would’ve made any difference if you’d been taking the creatine every day all the way up to it though.

LOL, yeah i probably wouldn’t recommend taking creatine up the nose. the reason you snort cocaine nasally is for quickest delivery to the brain, and since you don’t really need creatine in your brain that’s probably a bad idea. just sayin…
glad to hear you restocked your supply. now go train and get to breakin that American record already!

i’m pretty sure we had him set up on the usual recommended dose of Podium Gold, the creatine supplement that we helped develop that’s ionically bound to beta-alanine.
What do you mean you helped develop? Did California strength academy make a creatine supplement?
My fiancé has a question
He is taking Creatine Monohydrate by Prolab…no other ingredients in it.
After the loading phase of 5 days is complete, when is the best time to take creatine…before workout? After workout? Or First thing in the morning?
Also what is the best liquid to take it with?
Some people say water is not the best. Grape juice seems to be popular since the sugar tends to spike your insulin level causing your body to absorb more creatine ingested.

It really doesnt matter when he takes it, and any drink with sugar that will cause an insulin spike is great, doesnt really matter what type of liguid, as long as it causes an insulin spike.
