I was going to buy some protein online and was looking at a few because i ran out of my 100% gold whey by optimum nutrition, and i was just looking around looking at different things that different powders had to offer. What do you guys look for in a good protein powder? what things are most important to when buying a protein? id love to hear what you guys think!!!

depends on a few things, but mostly what your goals are (weight/mass gain? fat loss?) and what you are going to use the powder for (pre/peri/post workout? meal replacement/snack?)

i’ve always been a fan of biotests products and would recommend them if you haven’t tried them.

Surge is great for workout drinks cause it has a ton of BCAAs.
Grow is their standard whey protein but really high quality.
Metabolic Drive has both whey and cassein so is a better all-purpose and snack/meal replacement protein.
ignore tha Anaconda stuff if you go to their site, that’s way beyond your level.

Good answer Pete… There are many different protein powders and supplements for different goals.

I look for a:

-Good chocolate tasting protein
-Low in fat, carbs, and calories
-About 25-30 grams of protein per serving
-Blends well with ice and don’t clump up
-Makes a good pudding constancy (a must)

I prefer a blend (casein and whey) so i can take it anytime of the day, Also, I don’t like when protein powders are filled with garbage fillers and processed ingredients.

I prefer natural sweetener such as stevia but it won’t make or break my choice.

My favorite proteins powders are low carb isopure, metabolic drive, Beverly international and mhp probolic

Blake, have you tried anything other protein powder besides optimum nutrition?

hey, if it ain’t broke don’t fix it.

i would recommend you try different things to find things that work, but if you’ve already found a powder that you like and that works i’d say stick with it. with so much stuff out there on the market, it’s easy to blow a ton of money and waste a lot of time trying to find something that works, so once you’ve found one that gets the job done you should save yourself the hassle and keep using it.

the caveat to that advice above is that you are young and haven’t tried anything else, so maybe you do want to try other things, but i would say you should only do that if you aren’t happy with the results you are getting with your other products.

my two cents.

Yeah, that’s a good idea, you never know about something until you try. It’s also hard to know whether you are wasting a ton of money paying for fancy supplements with lots of marketing and additives when you could be getting just as much from the generic powders at Trader Joes or Costco.

Pete..

What generic protein powder does trader Joes make?  I never saw it and i am a big trader Joes fan…

Blake I agree…

If it aint broken then don’t fix it BUT!! How do you know if your supplements are the right ones if you have not tried and compared other supplements?

I love the flavor of Big Blend by Betancourt Nutrition. Great profile on it and it is by far the best tasting. I am hooked on white chocolate.
